Hi,

Can anyone help me with what reported CPU temp value i should care about ?

Using various tools i see varying different temp values and i don't know what's best to be looking at.

In the BIOS i see a value of, for example, 30C. If i use, again for example, HWiNFO i see the following:

ITE IT8728F - CPU - 40C
ITE IT8728F - Temperature 3 - 30C (matches BIOS)

IntelCPU - CPU Package - 40C
CPU Digital Thermal Sensors - 40/37/37/34C

Now with the system underload i get values of:

BIOS - 82C

ITE IT8728F - CPU - 40C
ITE IT8728F - Temperature 3 - 82C (again matches BIOS)

IntelCPU - CPU Package - 93C
CPU Digital Thermal Sensors (cores0-3) - 90/92/84/77C

Which of these figures should i care about ? The BIOS temp looks like it's fine but if i look at the CPU package Temp of 93 i'm far more concerned ! For reference if i measure the temp of the heat plate on the cooler with a laser thermometer i don't see anything over 35C !

Thoughts ?

Cheers ... Andy

PS - CPU is running a mild overclock @ 3.8GHz
CPU cooler is CoolerMaster Hyper TX3

Those load temps all seem high.

I would reseat your heatsink and as you have exposed heatpipes i would make sure you apply the TIM this way - link

Once reseated monitor the temps using Core Temp - idle and load.

As an a side - i would conider getting the Hyper Plus 212 @ ~£18 (or ideally the Gelid Tranquillo @ £25) - then you wont have the doubt that your fitting isn't secure as they both use backplates and screws to secure the HS - which are far easier to fit than pushpins.

Thanks Plec ..

I followed the instructions suggested and gave it a good polish to get rid of the lumps and bumps.

However no difference in performance that i can see. Time for a new cooler.... that one was rather noisy ;-)
