My system I've just assembled after finally getting all the parts together is turning on, then off, then on, then off, etc when I power it up...

Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3
i5 2550K
4x2GB Corsair XMS3 RAM
2x4GB Geil Black Dragon RAM
Corsair HX620 PSU
60GB OCZ Vertex 2E SSD
60GB OCZ Agility 3
560Ti 448 core

As you may have noticed, I have 2 sets of RAM. I went and bought new and better RAM thinking this was the issue

The 4 case fans spin fine, as does the CPU fan. The status LEDs on the motherboard appear to be indicating correct functioning.

If I power up the system with just one module of RAM installed, it runs fine.

I've reset the CMOS.

I'm thinking it's a faulty motherboard. Obviously hoping that's not the case, so what do you guys reckon?

Things to try,

Using a single stick of RAM (that works fine) update the BIOS.

Download and run memtest.

With a working stick of RAM installed can you load a XMP profile and then fit the other RAM from the kit?

Basically, yes.

But if the RAM does have a XMP profile, then its a simple one click operation.

So this 'XMP' is a BIOS-specific or RAM specific setting? Sorry, bit confused as I've never had RAM that had 'profiles' before

You will find it within the BIOS (if the RAM has it), you select it and the board takes care of the rest.
