Hi all

Hoping you can help with some show-stopping issues with my new build - looks like a MB problem...

Got these bits delivered from OCuk On 30th May (so if it comes to it I guess I'm out of luck with a DSR return if required):

Intel Core i5-3570K
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD
Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Teamed them up with these (which I bought a couple of months earlier to go with a 2nd hand mb/cpu/ram combo that unfortunately didn't work out):

MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 1024MB GPU
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Built it the day after I got all the components together and all looked ok apart from whenever I added a new component (I tend to put a build together a piece at a time to help troubleshooting). Each addition resulted in a "main BIOS corrupt - loading from Backup BIOS". Never having had a dual BIOS before (been 5 years since last build), I phoned OCUK to check if this was a Big Red Flag warning or just weird. They accurately said all would prob be ok after the build was finished - weird is just where we live these days. Sure enough, after all was complete (hardware-wise) put WIN64 on and all was well for a day or so (had changed the SATA setting to ACHI pre-install etc)

Then it started with hanging problems - in Windows and whilst in the BIOS. The forums came the rescue (again!) - setting the Bclock to 100.1 (or was it 100.01) sorted everything out. Phew.

All went brilliantly for over a week, and I was thinking that spending such a large chunk of cash was well worth it - a great system to see me through the next 5 years.

Then in the middle of this week, booted it up and it didn't even get the monitor going. After 4 or 5 power cycles got a display up showing "Main BIOS corrupt - loading from Backup BIOS". It duly loaded and I tried to load the saved BIOS profile with the changes I had made and saved (and checked were there) earlier. It couldn't find any profiles saved so I made the changes manually. All was well for about a day then it started hanging etc. Checked the BIOS - it hadn't retained any of my settings - but this time didn't give me the Corrupt Main BIOS message.

So currently I'm lucky if I can boot to Windows; I either get the corrupt BIOS message (say one time in 5) - the rest of the time it has forgotten my settings completely so it behaves badly (hangs) till I go back in to re-enter them. Sometimes it doesn't retain setting even between 2 reboots!

Forgot to say - I haven't done any OC at all - was going to look at that next month after the system had proved stable. Also the BIOS is still at version F8. Was looking at flashing with a newer one before I found the Bclock workaround. After implementing that, it seemed so rock solid I didn't think it was worth messing with it. Now that the BIOS is either corrupting or just not retaining settings, don't know if a new BIOS is pertinent?

Sorry about the long post - am at my wits end and unsure how to proceed. Flash BIOS? DSR/RMA? Thanks for reading - all help appreciated.

Thanks for the quick help Stulid :)

Will try the newest BIOS - didn't realise this may help as I thought the BIOS chip must be unhappy as it wasn't retaining settings etc.

Will flash and report back - thanks again!

Looking good so far - flashed to f14 and all is well. My hind brain is over the moon but my forebrain is cautiously optimistic lol ... the pc was stable for a week before it took a dive so will see how it goes.. fingers crossed!

In any case Stulid - good call and many thanks for the help. Whatever happens next, the BIOS upgrade seems have to dug the PC out of a very deep hole :)

Hmm, got the same board with the F8 BIOS. No probs so far though the Q-Flash wouldn't work - I could only access the 'Exit Q-Flash' command, the others didn't work for some reason. Perhaps I'll try the @BIOS utility.

Just fixed it. For some reason the BIOS wouldn't recognize my USB stick in Q-Flash (though could see it in another section). Re-entered Q-Flash, tried again, and this time it could see my SD card reader. Put the latest version on there and hey presto - now on F14.
