Hi, 2 days ago I finished this build:

Gigabyte Z87-D3HP; Intel i5-4670k; Shadow Rock Pro SR1 Cooler; Ballistix Tracer Ram 2x4gb DDR3-1866 (PC3-14400);
Boot Drive: Samsung SSD 840 series 250gb; secondary drive: standard WD sata hard drive; EVGA Geforce GTX 660.Phantom Case.

Everything powered up and ran fine for 2 days but now when I switch on the PC it suddenly powers completely down (this can be before or after the splash screen) it does it usually twice then suddenly boots. when I do get into Windows 7 everything is fine and stable. Now for the first time I got a boot failure error. I selected optimize then reboot option but still having problems when switching on for the 1st time. Anything I can check in the Bios configs? or is it a motherboard failure? HELP !!!

thanks wazza but still having problems...

I did set xmp (under memory XMP Profile 1) but I think that got removed on "optimized then reboot" command.

I have flashed the bios to the latest F4 as above. have reinstated XMP.
the first 2 boots were fine but the one after that the PC powered down 3 times before raising the boot failure error again. :( I am wondering if it is to do with the RAM.... Are there any further settings I should check?

can you try with x.m.p enabled and try with 1.10v cpu/vtt

or try manually setting up your ram speed, could start off with 1600mhz and see if it boots, then gradually try higher

idk what the rated dram voltage is for that memory but id guess or try between 1.55-1.65v

My Z87X-UD5H won't boot using the XMP profile. Well, not using the latest bios it doesn't, it did out of the box.

I'm using 12Gb (2x4Gb+2x2Gb) of G.Skill Eco RAM. XMP is 1600Mhz 8 8 8 8 @ 1.35v. Currently only boots using 1333 at higher timings @ 1.5v.

I'd imagine (and I'm hoping) there will be BIOS updates coming thick and fast.

ok something weird is going on and looks like it is similar to inogen's post.
I definitely set and saved the XMP profile. I went back in the Bios and it is disabled. I'll try a few reboots and see what happens....

I cant see how reflashing again would solve the problem? I could try cmos clear I guess.
Can I not manually set the ram ?
I'm not sure how to do this but presume set the system memory multiplier to 18.66 (for 1866mhz-its currently 13.33) but what else? the spec timings on the spec are 9-9-9-24 but in the bios on the auto setting for both banks of RAM already have these numbers!! argghhh just wanna know if its a memory compatability issue or the board :(

probably memory compatibility

on z77 sometimes it wont save or make the settings stick so you have to reflash the bios again then they will stick/save,could be same for z87

memory multipler will let you adjust mem speed

reflashed the f4 latest bios again and during the next 4 resets it powered down before finally going into windows.

looks like I have a £1,000 computer turkey for now, thanks for your help anyhow

Stick with it,you always get teething issues with new chipsets, you could try different ram,Kingston,Samsung greed should work ok,seemslike its a BIOS bug with crucial memory

yeah you are right, I just feel bloody ****ed at the moment lol
I presume Gigabyte have a tested list of what memory will definitely work? I'll check it out. thanks matey

Try 1 stick at a time just to rule out that one of the sticks isn't faulty, if it still happen's see if you can borrow a couple of sticks from somewhere else (Kingston RAM) will run in almost anything.
Bluebook is right I can't find the vql on their main site either very much unlike them.

looking good

thanks for your help guys.
looks like there is an issue with this ram for this mobo (Ballistix by Crucial, 2x4gb Tactical Tracer DDR3-1866) (or I have faulty RAM)

deduced from the following:

I had spare ram to test from my 'visual pinball project' and installed the following:
Kingston 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis XMP Memory Kit CL9 1.65V. first left bios as is and tested 6x restarts 6xcold starts all fine.
then enabled XMP, showed correct rating, 3x restarts 2x cold all fine so far.

I'll re-test the Crucial RAM later on in my other slightly older gigabyte board and see what happens.... thanks again, I keep expecting for it to power down during a boot but its not! :)

Hi GIGA-MAN, details are:
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLT2CP4G3D1869DT2TXOBCEU) (Orange & Blue Activity LEDs) **WORLD FIRST**

I placed this ram in my other gigabyte mobo: Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V H61 - and it works fine concluding I had a problem with this z-87 one.

I did get a response from Gigabyte who advised me to clear the CMOS but presume I have effectively already done this since I have updated the BIOS. Would be nice if Gigabyte could produce a memory support list at the time of release. thanks
