I'm really sorry and apoligise in advance if this is in the wrong section.
I bought the above board bout 2 years ago. I had a i5 4670k at the same time and everything was fine. A few days ago I sold my i5 and grabbed a i7 installed it and..issues. I've tried the CPU on another machine but it seems "wrong",it doesn't look like a psu issue so I think maybe the MB has gone. Or CPU is faulty Do I have a 3 year warranty with this board and if so do I send back to OCUK? I still have original receipt etc .
Again I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section and if so mods please move it.
Best regards

Have you tried pulling the battery ? also try booting with just the onboard graphics to see if you can get into the bios that way..

double check all the connections also:)

That's exactly what I'm going to do next mate,my old man has got a magnifying glass for reading his daily rag, I'm going swipe it and get a good close look at the pins, hopefully that'll solve it. Do you think the way my PC is behaving that the CPU is "sitting funny" I've bent pins etc?
Cheers

It does happen yes i cant really think what else it could be.. if there is a bent pin just be very careful bending it back :)

Which i7, the 4770k or 4790k? If it's the latter then you may need to update the bios on the motherboard to support it. Haswell refresh/Devils Canyon support was added in the F7 bios. The F8 bios is the latest. You will need a original Haswell based cpu to do this though.

Hi guys it looks like a lot of bent pins on my MB,maybe to many to sort,I think I was to rough in taking my older I5 out,I've made a right mess, thing is though the CPu still crashes on a friends PC?? I may just get a new motherboard ,OCUK have this in stock GIGABYTE Z97X-GAMING 3 INTEL Z97 (SOCKET 1150) DDR3 ATX MOTHERBOARD......would I be able to put my new i7 4790k straight into this board without updating bios? Thanks all

Sorry to hear about the bent pins did you try and straighten them at all?

I see no reason why that motherboard would not work with that chip without a bios update but if there is one available after you get it running again do update it to the latest version:)

Thanks peahead,I tried but no joy, thing is..the i7 isn't "performing" right on my mates PC either, so that might have to get RMA,d.
Anyway I had a old board (AMD) that I forgot about with 4gb ddr2 and a phenom 955 CPU :D . I fastened it up to the psu and it booted straight away so I know now at least it's not my psu.

I managed to find a company on flea bay that had got a manufacturer restored z87-hd3 for £55 free delivery and 12 months warranty. I've grabbed a old Intel lga1150 CPU for 20 quid that I can boot up with 1st. Then il check the bios ..if it's f7 or f8 il just install my i5 4790k. If not I can update bios using the old chip then install the new CPU. That's what I'm hoping for anyway...fingers crossed

Edit: PeaHead we did manage to eventually straighten the pins but i went ahead and grabbed a new board, and the 1st I7 still had issues so i RMA.d and the new one is perfect.

Hi Peahead sorry it took so long. 1st I7 i had to RMA,the replacement turned up and is perfect
put the motherboard in and put the older £20 CPU in,booted up straight away ,went into bios and the Motherboard was already updated to the latest version F8.

Anyways..put the i7 in and it only showed 2 cores and 4 threads..after a bit of browsing i went into msconfig (boot.) (advanced options.) and unticked Number of processors. after that it all fell into place. (4 cores 8 threads)

Just grabbed a 1070 today to go with the new CPU and MB..its like lightning.
Cheers mate
