ok I been looking into upgrading my aging lga 775 setup for awhile now and have set my sight on the Gigabyte Z87-UD5H & A Haswell 4770k cpu. The problem i now face is selecting suitable memory for the setup. I'm looking at 8gb @ 2400MHz as I going to OC the 4770k as I be re-using my Phanteks PH-TC14pe cpu cooler on it.

my question is this does anyone know if "TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2400HC11CDC01)" work with this motherboard as I can't find anything on either team group or gigabyte website that say the it does or doesn't work with the board and from what web searches I've done most are using 2133MHz of the memory and not the 2400MHz.

now gigabyte does say that "TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (TXD38G2400HC10QDC01)" is Tested to work on all four of the memory slots on the Z87-UD5H but I'm Pretty sure that ram high fins will hit my cooler stopping me from installing another two ram Modules at a later date to increase my memory so they are no go. any thanks in advance for any help that can be given on this issue. as I don't want to buy all this part only to find that the motherboard doesn't like the memory too well as I did that last time I upgrade to find my asus striker II Extreme absolutely hated the OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK) that I bought with it as it was the source of many BSOD, and hard lockups.

all you can do is try it and see, return it if its not compatible, the memory qvl list will be outdated anyway

plus theres a possibility of gigabyte sending you a modified bios to get the ram working if you ask them

Hi,
I have that motherboard with 4770K, does it have to be 2400MHz? I am using 2 X 4GB Corsair Vengeance pro silver sticks 2133MHz and it's working a treat, I did originally get 2 X 4GB Crucial ballistix tactical tracer but the mother board just kept resetting with it.

I think the team group stuff is fine though but don't quote me on it. 2133MHz is blisteringly quick and I can assure you the Corsair works great in that mobo, I've been running mine for a few months now and it's never blinked once.

Cruical RAM and Giga Z87 boards do seem to have problems.

Gigabyte cant possibly test every RAM kit on the market and add it to the QVL list as that would takes ages.

What I will say is that you wont be the first person to use Team Vulcan RAM on their Giga Z87 board:)

ok I've pulled the trigger on my upgrade plans and bought the parts for my upgrade but I've amended what parts I was buying as better motherboards came on offer today.

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £247.99
Gigabyte Z87X-OC Force Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL! £219.95 (over £200 knock off couldn't resisted buying it)
TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
total : £523.93

Very nice spec indeed. Using team group vulcan red 2400mhz here. Worked fine straight of the bat using the xmp profile. Ive owned a few team ram kits over the years. Cracking good stuff from a very reputable manufacturer.

well I finale gotten around to building my system on Sunday & spend most of Monday installing updates plus few core programs plus bf4. after getting very low fps playing bf4 today(Tuesday), I wanted to see why I was getting low fps. I discovered that my cpu core speed was stuck at 800mhz weather it was under load or idling it was fixed at 800mhz. so having spend a few hours messing around doing test, trying various bio's setting, I did search on the net and i find one forum post that match my problem completely with the exception that the board they were using was the z87x-oc where I'm using the z87x-oc force. to cut a long story short their a switch on the motherboard called "oc trigger" that is set from factory to 2 position, when in 2 position it ignore all command from bios and set cpu to it lowest setting ie 800mhz. this switch need to be set to the 1 position so that command from bio will be accepted to set cpu at oc setting or stock setting. so the moral of the story whenever buy motherboard do read manual fully not just quick look through it.

posting this here because like I mention I found number post with same problem but only one had real solution. so tomorrow I will set the trigger to 1 position, as it too late to do it now and test it. but I'm 90% sure the moving it to the 1 position will fix the core problem of core speed stuck at 800mhz weather or not it fixes the problem of low fps in bf4 im 60% sure it solves it, 40% it doesn't solve it.

update: flip the switch to the one position on Wednesday and it did the trick I also oc the cpu to 4.5GHz and as memory is link it was oc to 2500MHz. all i did was set base clock to 125.00, multi to 36, core voltage to 1.250 and set memory to profile 1 so that it got the correct setting, the rest of the setting are on auto.

Can I just add, I have this board with Crucial Ballistix sport 1600 and keep getting bsod. I have now ordered some patriot ram off of the QVL to see if it fixes it.

Anybody else had the same problem?

ive seen issues with crucial memory so doesn't surprise me

might be ok with latest beta bios idk if you tried that?

no, I did update to the latest stable release but made no difference.

I will just wait for my new ram to arrive and put the crucial on the MM.
2 Sticks are new just got them back from an RMA. :(

Realized that one set of ballistix I have is CL10 rather than 9, so have adjusted them properly. So I will see if I still get the BSOD before I update the bios again.

Just too say the ram seems to be working fine now.
I had the ram in the wrong slots, I thought that the channels were colour coded?? so I had one CL9 & CL10 in CH1 and the same in CH2 so no wonder it was having a fit because the CL10 was set to run as CL9...
So I am now returning the new ram, but I may get some 2400mhz ram instead.
Cheers for your help though ;)
