Hi,

As in title really. My Tiscali supplied router that I got in 2008 has over the last few months started playing up. Randomly disconnecting and needing reset.

Tiscali were bought by Talk-Talk and a lot of the threads on the tiscali support forum seem to have be deleted, but it seems to affect a lot of people. One thread on the Talk-Talk forum is exactly the same issue im having. The solution from the support/mods is sending a engineer out at a cost.

So my question, does anyone have experience or ideas what could be causing it? Or is it gubbed?

Firmware is v3.01.19A

Thanks.

A brief summary of the steps I'd take, not necessarily in this order:
- Connect the modem/router only to the test socket in the master telephone socket via microfilter.
- Perform a quiet line test with an analogue telephone directly into the test socket - no microfilter.
- Change the microfilter and modem cable.
- Step up to the next target SNR profile and/or enable interleaving if applicable.
- Try another modem/router - borrow one, perhaps.

I would use the test socket exclusively throughout the troubleshooting process. You could see if Routerstats (lite) is compatible with the device as collecting noise margin data over an extended period may identify a local interference issue.

Perhaps you could post your current modem stats from it's web interface? Instructions here.

As you've got access to TalkTalk's site you're more likely than I to know whether your firmware revision is the latest available. What I can see is the model in question is no longer supplied by TalkTalk. My experience in this kind of situation with another ISP is that an engineer should only be required at your premises if the ISP have taken you through the troubleshooting, and possibly performed checks from their end, concluding there is a line problem. If they didn't find a line issue I would at least expect them to replace the modem/router with a current model.
