gigebyte GA-965p ds4 motherboard

the gigabyte p965 ds3 rev 3.3 can, I'm running an e5300 in mine right now.

As for the DS4, I have no idea, check the BIOS updates page. :)

If you have a rev 1.0 board then no. If you have a rev 2.0 board then it's extremely patchy. If you have a rev 3.3 board then yes but it's a unofficial bios as the 965P chipset was never intended to work with 45nm cores.

Yeah, I have used a Q6600 in my DS4 just fine.. Clocked to "No way" and then to "Oh my god" and it was fairly stable until "Argh"

On a more serious note, Im running it at stock now and it plays every game I throw at it with ease and so I would not worry too much about upgrading unless you really want to.

I feel that we are at a time in computer technology that even a humble PC can do pretty much whatever an uber PC can do without thre being too much obvious difference. ( pinch of salt included )

PSU shutting down on GA-965P-DS4 Rev 2.0

Hi All,
Doing a rebuilt for my brother as a good favour, what seem a simple remove from old tower case and install into new (along with a few new components) has turned to poo. It took ages for the install of OS PC decided to shut down for no reason. I update the BOIS to the newer version and eventually got the OS install but now having issues with the PC powering down five minutes or so when in windows OS (Vista ultimate 64 bit). Has anyone had similar issues with this type of board. What are the causes for a Power supply to shut down?? Swapped out the power supply with a working Antec 850 and graphics card as well, still no change... at my wits end.... any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Only have the following connected.
CPU:- Core 2 (didn't even look which cpu connected)
Board:- GA-965P-DS4 rev 2.0 updated Bios to rev 12 on board.
Graphics:- Card ATI 1950XT 512 MB
Hard Drive:- OCZ SSD 30 GB
Ram:- Corsair DDR2 XMS2 6400
Power Supply:- Seasonic 600 Watt

Regards.

Will try again, but I do know if thats going to solve the problem as I reformatted and installed after bios update.. sure there would be an issued with SSD thats causing it. Might try and load os on spare drive to see if I have similar issues

Any one else have similar problems

If its shutting down after a few minutes, also make sure the cooling is sorted out.
Make sure the Heatsink is properly seated with a sensible ammount of gunk.
Clearing the BIOS too, I asusme you did that of course when oyu upped it.

It still does it with a PSU change, and GFX too, so we know its not that.

RAM usually warns us in other ways than shutting the system down, so its doubtful its RAM, however if you have more than one stick, then not testing single sticks out is silly, so have a go.

So, in this 5 minutes or so, it does seem to be running fine?

It does sound like Temps though.

In saying that, I have a Mobo that has suddenly started to develop weirdness and Im still working on why it does that, so who knows?

Ok, have you made sure that all the contacts are firm? ( The power connections to the HD etc )

And is everythign else seated right?

Sometimes when you have been through most of the obvious stuff, simply taking it apart and rebuilding it can help... Sometimes you find a screw wedged where it should not be, or that the board is not seated 100% right on the brass risers or whatever?

Few things to look at anyway.

45nm chips arent supposed to work in revision 1.0 boards, but i have an E8400 running happily in my 965P-DS3 Revision 1.0 board. I actually bought the chip on a whim without actually checking to see if the chip would work (yes dumb, almost unforgivable mistake).

On discovering the chip wasnt compatible i googled for anyone that had got it working. Only found one person who said it worked with the F13 official bios so as i already had the chip i thought i might as well try it and happily it works fine.

It's been happily running at 3.6ghz (400x9) for just over a week now with zero problems.

I just quoted what Gigabytes official cpu support list states.
