My girlfriend and I are keen about exercising and often run together, over the last year or so my girlfriend has been struggling for breath and describes it as if she has the inability to get air into her lungs.

We went to the local GP and he said there was nothing obviously wrong with her after he had run a few tests. He told her to get a blood test, chest x-ray & sonogram which she has done. After getting the results back there was nothing that appeared to point towards anything wrong with her.

We went for another run last night and the same thing happened again she was struggling to breath and had to stop several times.

Have any of you guys heard of anything like this before?

As said could be numerous things. Whilst I dont have asthma as such there are two things that make my chest tighten up and get wheezy. Exercising in cold air and extreme exercise in any air. For example doing a 10mile time trial on my bike where I literally put in max effort for 10 miles after that I get really wheezy and it can last for some time. I have a blue (ventolin) inhaler for these such periods. Breathing in cold air deeply does this to me even if I do moderate levels of exercise, i.e. just bimbling into work on the bike on a cold morning.

I cant say this is your problem though and you will have to keep on at the doctor until they come up with something. Good luck.

Yeah unfortunately i am in Australia in Queensland and it rarely goes below 20 degrees all year round so i dont think it is a weather related issue!

I am convinced its asthma but surely the doctors would have diagnosed that instantly??
