Hi there.

My girlfriend recently had a baby boy (Jan 23rd 2015) and is in need of losing the baby weight and some of her normal weight. I have permission to post the following stats. She is embarrassed about it though :(.

  • She is 22 years old
  • 5' 4"
  • Weight 17st 3lb
  • Weight this time last year 14st 11lb
  • Target weight 15st initially. Over how long is not decided.
She started logging her eating habits and exercise on the bike on the 3rd of March and at that time she weighed 17st 10lb. So, to date has lost 7lbs.

Currently she is eating Slimming world based food, eg. using Frylight for cooking and having salad with her meals, such as baked/stir fried Chicken (in frylight). She has cut out biscuits, chocolate, bread (having Warburtons Thins for breakfast), crisps, fizzy pop, no alcohol. etc etc.

She has an exercise bike that she currently uses 5 days a week and goes on for minimum or 15 mins 1-2 occasions per day, baby depending. Currently sat at 145km is 6 weeks. Sometimes hard to spend more time on it. She is working up resistance on the bike. It is a magnetic bike.

Her plans are to join slimming world, go swimming and eventually join a Gym once her confidence has improved. She can't go running (yet) due to confidence.

She generally feels crap about herself, the way she looks and feels, Clothes that don't fit etc. I am sure you are all aware of this at sometime in your experience.

What would you guys suggest her to do. She really wants to do this but is finding it hard due to pretty much wanting it all to fall off over night.

I am supportive of her and always reassure her and am wanting to help as much as I can. We have discussed getting a couple of bikes for the summer to go out on mine with a baby seat thing on the back :D. Just generally taking long but gentle paced rides.

Over to you.:)

If you need any more information please ask and I will update as needed.

The first year is generally massively surprising job terns of baby weight,.. So ?I would honestly suggest sitting back with the sorog and taking it for long walks in the pram: it will do both mum and baby the world of good. :)

If she is determined, then take it slow: two months post child birth is not long for the pelvic floor and core muscles to have started working properly, particularly if it is the first baby, so exertions may be problematic.

Most important is diet - this is 70/80% of the battle. It will mean you have to support through taking part, too, because unless you are both iron- willed, this effort won't last a month until you both feel like ****.

Enjoy your new baby and if duet and walks take place, the weight will fall off. :)

This is the key from my pov. At this time after birth her hormones are still all over the place and keeping calm and reassuring will mean the world to her.

Probably too late as you will have decided by now but breast feeding is a big use of calories!
