....building my own intel pc :P.

I have been bought a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R as an incentive (my choice though) and propose the following:-

E8500 E0 (been offered one cheaper than a E8400 :) )

Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler

The thing I am not sure about is memory,I have a choice of the following three:-

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK)

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK)

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C6 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX8500AD2K2/4G)

I believe I could use pc2-6400,but have been offered one of the above sets, and the board supports pc2-8500,so why not?

My questions are:

Will the board be ok with any of the above sets,or would one be better/more compatible than the others,If you use or have used any of these please share your experience.

From a first start up scenario, will I need to change any settings in the bios for this memory (think they range 2.0v-2.1v-2.2v,don't really understand all that) or will the m/board do it automatically?

I am trying to make sure that the memory I buy is 100% compatible, tried & true with this board so if you recommend something else please let me know.

Thanks in advance, all help is appreciated....

Personally I'd get the OCZ, as the other makes are a bit more budget. Really comes down to cost though, as they're all the same specs....may even use the same chips.

On first boot, you should manually set the latencies and voltage. SPD timings are usually rubbish, and the wrong voltage can cause instabilities :)

EDIT: Actually the Kingston stuff seems to be CAS6, which is pants. Don't bother with that.

Good on you for having a go.

I like G.Skill the best as its been very reliable for me, though the OCZ would also be fine.

Thanks for the welcome & answers so far guys....

@ randal24 - sorry, already claimed ;).I have not done any o/c'ing yet but have a feeling I could in the future.

@Sweetloaf - I should find it very easy then :p,sorry contracted to Hello!

My leaning is toward the OCZ with 2nd choice G.Skill. but neither are on the Giga compatability list, just wondered if anyone had tried a similar setup.

Any other thoughts & advice welcome..
