Girls Game suggestions-Quite serious!

I am considering persuading a Friend of mine to DL Steam with a view to buying her a Game (or two) for Christmas.

She is an absolute classic Girl when it comes to games. Hasn't bought anything recently (At least ten years) and what she has are the typical Tetris/Maj-jong type games (What I have always called "Tidying up Games" :D ).

She is not into violence (Though quite likes Horror/Scary) and her current PC, while recent (Purchased from OCUK last year on my suggestion) and reasonably CPU capable (i5 IIRC) only has a basic graphics card.

I am looking for sugestions at to what sort of Games there might be out there that she might enjoy.

I am thinking not just modern equivalents of her existing games, but also possibly non-graphics intensive mystery/problem solving games. As I said earlier. real-time Combat will not be to her taste (Not sure about Turn based combat, might be OK) but spooky/scary would be fine (even desirable)

There are vastly more games out there than there were even 5 years ago, especially in the indy market, with some being good and some being dire It is not an area I have looked at before so would be grateful for any suggestions. :)

My 10 year old loved the Sims and now absolutely adores Minecraft. She is on it every minute she can get.

I know its not the type of game you mentioned but get her audiosurf mate.
It can be gotten for pennies, i got it for my misses a few years back and she loves it still to this day.

Legend of Grimrock is on offer atm (Steam for £2.39). It has a large amount of puzzle / thinking situations, and doesn't need a high end video card to run it well. It also lends itself well to those that like something a bit creepy. :)

Limbo sounds like it would be just about perfect. its a side scrolling puzzle platformer that has such a fantastic atmosphere. very little in the way of combat from what i remember of the demo: http://store.steampowered.com/video/48000

Also, I don't know if she will like the combat, but the thief games are also fantastic. I haven't played much of the first two because the graphics are a bit dated (they are from 1999 I believe) but I've played the third one (thief deadly shadows) a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. As all the sneaking around the city and stealing stuff and breaking and entering, there's plenty of horror in amongst the later parts of this game too. The 'robbing the cradle' level is arguably the scariest level of any game out there, with the possible exception of something from amnesia

+1 for portal and portal 2 as well

Football Manager 2014

or head over to steam they got a lot of games on discount, seen a fair few Lego games, I use to love that carp when I was younger!

I'd agree with Portal 1 and 2.

Be wary of platform games though like Limbo though for someone who isn't used to gaming so much. Some of them demand pretty high skill with keyboard/mouse/controller even though some of them are excellent. I can't be doing with them a lot of the time. They just frustrate me.

Gone Home is a good suggestion. And Walking Dead. She may like Don't Starve. It's got quite a lot of humour and lots of opportunity to explore.

Oh yes, Machinarium. That's a lovely little game. Really cute with a nice way of helping you through if you get stuck on the puzzles. One of my female friends who wasn't a big gamer...we played LOTRO together....loved Machinarium.
