Hi folks. I'm having nothing but problems with my rig right now. I woke up this morning to hear the case alarm ringing. Speedfan is telling my my GPU is sitting at 54C and my CPU at 46C. I'm guessing my GFX card is on the way out. I've been looking for a change of late anyway as this machine is used more and more as a jukebox rather than a gaming rig since I bought my PS3. I was looking at new laptops but in all honesty they won't really cut it since I do a lot of photo editing and I can't afford a laptop with a screen that is up to the job.

What I'm thinking is this -

GFX card is an nVidia 7800GTX. What can I swap in which is relatively cheap and more importantly very quiet?

CPU is an Intel Q6600 cooled by an Artic Freezer 7 Pro. Motherboard is an Abit IP35. What can I do with this combo to quieten it all down and at the same time keep it cool?

As I'm not gaming on the PC these days GFX power is not important to me.

The case is a Coolermaster Wavemaster btw.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Gordon.

I don't really know what's wrong with them. I do know I'm getting a temperature alarm as soon as I boot the machine so something's wrong.

Too late for that I'm afraid. Got up this morning, switched the computer on and...nothing. It can see the drives but asks for the system disk. I've went into the BIOS and changed the boot priority to use the CD drive but for some reason it doesn't want to see either optical drive. I am unable to access the safe mode either. I checked all connections in the case and all are firm so I'm at a loss to what's happened. I'm inclined to think my C driveis gubbed but that wouldn't explain why the BIOS won't load from the Windows disc. I've had to put it into a shop to see what's up. If it's cheap I'll get it repaired, if not I'll be looking at OCUK for a new rig. I fancy Windows 7 anyway and some important components in my PC are not compatible.
