Give me an item to make in 3DS Max

One of these.

You can actually model that i.e. for the middle prong flip the normals for the back bit :D

What is more beneficial to you, hard surface or organic?

Cars are a good hard surface exercise. Go to www.smcars.net for blueprints and lots of other peoples work. You should at least try to model an engine block. Lots of conflicting shapes that make smoothing a nightmare and lots of techniques can be used.

Otherwise, check out www.3dtotal.com for organic tutorials and workflows. I've never tried organic modelling myself so can't help much there.

I much preferred 3ds over Maya at Uni. In my third year I got more comfortable in Maya as the organic modelling was quite relaxing, but I was just much more familiar with 3dsmax for everything else.

Took ages to get used to the different controls in Maya to 3dsmax.

Still my worst memory of software at uni..... Motionbuilder

The female brain.

Impossible... it changes randomly, sometimes flipping completely in the space of 5 minutes. Once observed and apparently understood it will morph into something else entirely and claim to have been like that anyway :D

( am I bitter and twisted.... naa :p )
