We've just launched a new website at work and the chief exec thinks that it's too plain looking and wants something with flashy music and glitzy effects. I'm trying to prove a point by showing him examples of how not to do it.

Does anyone know of any flashy sites that take ages to download, preferably with annoying music and the like

Whats the flash site, it was a white ball, with blue neons and it did different things? (space ships and such)

Woah, over-designed or not it is very impressive. I love the backgrounds.

As nice as it is, I couldn't stay there long because of the long delay whenever changing sections.

A better tactic might be to point out the 'plain looking, non-glitzy' web sites that are among the most successful on the internet: BBC News, eBay.... oh, and that Google search contraption thing of course.

Y'know, the ones that he almost certainly uses on a daily basis.

While you're at it, point out that the more glitz you add, the more harm you do to the site's search rankings [not entirely true, but hey :D]. Suits do not like any harm to befall their blessed SEO, and you will cause him much consternation.

I'm guessing that this site wasn't designed by good, proper and reassuringly expensive web designers, hence his worries. Any designer worth their salt is by no means unfamiliar with this sort of reaction and will be well practiced in persuasive logical rebuttal.

Alternatively, just send him a link to MySpace. That'll teach him.

simisker raises a very good point.

In fact, nearly all big-name websites are basic sites with no spangly bits.
