I bought a snes so i could play my favourite snes game of all time (chrono trigger)again, but not on a crappy emulator but on the real thing. I have now completed it again (had a real blast playing it again :D ), but before i pack up the snes and put it in hidding for a few years i was wondering if there were any other brilliant rpg's i never played on the snes that i could get.

This is where you brilliant people come in, can you guys/gals think of any classic snes rpg's? The only games i have played are zelda, mario rpg and chronotrigger. Pathetic i know but i never really got into rpg's till psx and final fantasy 7.

The only ones i can come up with is final fantasy 4/5, star ocean and secret of mana

So any ideas?

Secret Of Mana - One of my favourite games of all time. Even better if you have someone to play it with.

FF5 will be difficult unless you can read Japanese. There wasn't an english version for the SNES. Got to go for FF6, that's the best of snes ones.

Legend of Zelda: A link to the past (my favourite rpg of all time)

The secret of mana...these are the 2 that really stand out as classics, have never had that same feeling back as when playing link to the past. Games these days seem a bit flashy and boring in comparison :)

Secret of Mana was awesome back when I was a kid :D Loved it to death.

Zelda is an obvious one. I also really really enjoyed Shadowrun, it was that little bit different from the norm.

Roger that. SoM in 3 player co-op is easily one of the most sublime gaming experiences i've had, ever. Me, my brother and best mate spent an entire summer holiday completing it over and over. One of my best memories of being a kid actually.

Chrono Trigger and FF6 (best in the series imo) all came close. Square sure knew how to make games back in the day.

Secret of Mana without doubt - Brilliant, problem is trying to source a copy that still works is gonna cost ya a few quid, last time I tried to get one, it was flying around for about £40-60.

*Edit* Shadowrun too, another hard game to source :(

List off the top of my head.

Secret of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3 (3rd game in the Mana series)
Final Fantasy IV-VI
Dragon Quest V-VI
Terranigma
Earthbound
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Star Ocean
Tales of Phantasia
Super Mario RPG
Front Mission
Super Robot Wars 3
The 7th Saga
Chrono Trigger
Bahamut Lagoon

Some of those can only be played via fan translation patches but I guess you already know about them since you mentioned Star Ocean :)

:edit: oops, I saw Star Ocean and assumed you were playing them via an emulator, thats what I get for skimming text... Some of those games were released in English though, like Earthbound and Terranigma, hope it helps.

I didn't own any of these classic RPGs for the SNES. My SNES games were very much Mario Kart, Street Fighter etc. I'm making sure I pick up these games on the Virtual Console.

The problem is a lot of them weren't released in this country. Importing was pretty much the only option for many RPGs.

Yeah, I realised that a few of those mentioned only saw Jap/US releases. But I'm still hopeful Nintendo treat us to a Virtual Console release; particularly Chrono Trigger.

Breath of Fire 2...one of my most favourite (and the first turn based I played) RPGs ever. 4 Characters per group, with each character being individual (none of this class business!)

I don't think it's too unlikely so long as the games got a US release, you can get PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 games on Virtual Console after all.

I've fond memores of this. Never quite up there with the Squaresoft greats, but Gaia had it's own charm.

I agree, maybe its just nostalga but I really enjoyed this when I played it. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, FFIV... there are loads. Secret of Mana was my favourite though, buddy up with someone else and this was one of the best RPGs ever made.
