Give me the best 'current' alternative OS to Windows!?

As per thread title. I'm bored of Windows and would like to learn something new!

What are your thoughts!?

Mac OS X, problem is you need a Mac to run it on.

linux or solaris, but you'll soon wish you hadnt bothered, windows looks fantastic next to them.

Linux is great if you want to spend your time trying to get the computer to do things, as opposed to doing them.

It's the closest I've ever found to Windows in terms of usability.
