Given a RT-AC68U, how do I make a bridge?

I am trying to avoid running cat6 through walls to appease the other half.

Internet access is via cable modem. There's a switch in another room, on a different power circuit, which would benefit from Internet access. I am primarily looking for a way to connect the two. A secondary wish is for a TV and mobile phones to see a wifi signal.

At the moment I plan to buy a second RT-AC68U, as the first is pretty, configure one as a "media bridge" or "repeater" and hope for the best. Some reading online suggests this will thwart dlna and, possibly, cifs. Some other hints suggest that customising the router OS can fix this.

I am posting as a long time believer in wires, mistrusting of this radio technology, looking for a convincing way to bridge an air gap. Will the above work? Would something else? Thank you

Different circuits isn't going to stop a Powerline connection working (assuming that's what you were alluding to). I'd try a set of AV1200 Powerline adapters from a supplier with a sympathetic returns policy before resorting to a wireless bridge.

Actually I'd run the cables I need so they're completely within the structure and decorated over. I could easily manage to ignore any unreasonable moaning while it's happening.

In my last place, with brand new wiring and a single circuit, a set of powerline adapters struggled to sustain 50mbits so I'd written them off for communicating via a fuse box. I'll look into reviews of some newer models, thanks for the suggestion.

My AC66U with Merlin firmware has options for Repeater, Access Point and Media Bridge. The OP should find something in there to do the job.

I doubt it was optimal, but I bought a second AC68U. Found "media bridge" in the options and, so far, everything is working very convincingly.

Thanks for the help :)
