Judging from today and last week, all promises of stock being plentiful seem baseless and I’ve given up on getting a 6800 XT until April or May next year.. this is my first ever build and I’ve got all but the gpu and cpu (delivery expected 18th dec) sat behind me waiting to be built.

So far I've got:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

ASUS ROG Strix B550F

Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB DDR-4 3600MHZ CL18

ADATA XPG SX8200 1TB M2 2280 NVME SSD

Seagate Baracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD

Corsair 750W Fully Modular Power Supply

Phanteks P400A case

I also have an LG Ultragear 27-GL850-B monitor which has the following if that helps:

Nano IPS 1ms

NVIDIA® G-SYNC® Compatible

144Hz

HDR 10

Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync™)

Could someone recommend me a decent alternative to the above for playing games with for the next 5 or 6 months whilst stock settles?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies guys - I mainly play Warzone at the moment, and will be getting Cold War once I'm able to build the PC (no point buying on Xbox). I'll also look at getting Cyberpunk eventually, but I can't make my mind up on what's best to do.. As I said above, 1070ti, 1660ti, 2060, RX 580 and 1080ti <-- these are the units a Reddit post has come back with, and I've had a 2070s and a 2080s mentioned here..

In reality, i'm just being impatient - i'm in the UK and there's very little else to occupy my time with, and it makes it harder having all but the CPU and GPU sat in their boxes behind me as I type!

I've spent a good few weeks researching, and feel as though the 6800 XT would be the perfect fit for my build (originally was after a 3070 or 3080 but the reviews saying low FPS on warzone soon put paid to those options) but obviously it's unlikely i'll get one in the next 4 or 5 months for a price even remotely realistic..

Do I go for something that's going to cost me £500 now knowing once prices and demand come down enough, it'll likely tank the price i'll get on resale, or do i go for something cheaper like the RX 580 and just deal with that for a few months?

I'm happy putting a few hundred pounds into the card I buy too - it's not a money issue - i suppose I'm just trying to make sure i'm not WASTING money

Sorry to keep throwing questions out, but having looked at comparisons, i'm torn between a 1080 and a 1660 - what's the difference between TI and Super first of all, and secondly, is there a 'better' model/manufacturer to go for on each board? I see Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS options with 'OC' and non-OC models also..

Thanks in advance

One last thing Micky (or anyone else!) - just about to 'pull the trigger' on the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB VENTUS XS OC - might sound daft, but will it fit in the phanteks p400a case I've bought?!

Hoping that doesn't sound like too stupid a question!

Yes, you could fit a small car in that case :D

Enjoy
Now then!

expecting the gpu between 10th and 18th dec - will keep you posted re how it goes but once again, thanks for your help!

With the 6800XT, is there currently a consensus on which AIB stands out as the better unit? If not, are you aware of any single resource that either currently or eventually will have an assessment of them all?
