So recently i decided to purchase a 21:9 34" screen.

First Screen Acer 34a predator unopened box - the screen had scratchs on bezel and lcd and i returned (i was told was acceptable in store) Not overclockers top bezel was wobbly to hell also , returned. average blb

Second Acer Screen 34a Predator - Wobby top bezel unven , big feint horizontal band on screen , scan lines like you never seen before , horrific blb returned.

Decided at this point to bite the bullet pay a little extra and go with the asus pg348q as it looks to be built better despite being same panel.

First Asus screen Hozitontal band top of screen which flickers scan lines (put up with this) as havent seen a panel without to some varying degree. But the speakers pop even when not in use , returned

Second Asus Screen horizontal band top of screen flickers believe this is normal average blb but noticed today as it was quite sunny the panel behind the screen has a kink in it running from left to right. Looks like a god awfull bad reflection and able to see without any power to the lcd.

So ive put up with scanlines and blb which are deemed normal only to find other faults such as speakers popping or bad construction. What do you have to do to get a decent screen these days as ill be returning my panel again and possibly giving up with what seems like a lottery :/

Appreciate the replys / feedback thanks. I just be mad but I've decided to try another Asus this time from overclockers I should have dealt with them first to be honest, as never had bad service from them unlike the previous store I just dealt with.

I wouldent wish on anyone what I've experienced but at least I know with overclockers if there's a problem they will sort it.

For a start don't buy Acer or Asus if you want actual quality control :| not that other brands are hugely better. I've reverted to buying Dell lately seems to be the least bad of an industry that doesn't seem to be being held to any kind of standard.

Always used to buy dell never had issues but been out of this game for 7+ years as I have been using my kuro for gaming.

Don't end up doing what most people do i.e. "put up with it", this is exactly why we are now in this position where monitors are laughable for QC issues because people just "put up with it"...

If I where you, I would just keep RMA'ing every single one until you get a good one and if they refuse any more RMA's then use the 14 day CCR law to return it for a full refund.

I would love to just keep rma but I don't the have energy for it mentally it's exhausting. I remember before I got my pioneer kuro I went thru around 11 Samsung panels before swearing I'd never touch them again and haven't to this day :)

If this next one has issues other then excessive blb or scan lines it's going back and I give up.

I love my Kuro to be honest and it smashes any PC or TV today for colour reproduction and detail hell it's a 32 bit panel. Just a shame only 60hz gynsc at 100hz is pretty nice.

well just recieved new monitor , unsure at moment scan lines seem to be more predominant on desktop.

Dang as i was posting this monitor turned itself of and wouldent power back up lol jeez rma`d already :/

well good news turns out display port cable was faulty that was supplied with monitor , up and running now. Seen three of these monitors now and they look all the same to me on left side, is it ips glow or blb ?
brightness is set at 27 appreciate feedback please guys :) not sure if to rma if there all roughly the same.

BLB is from the edges and more obviously the left most corners on the X34s/Asus that I've seen. Varies but mine is OK and you can manipulate it by slight pressure it the corners but it's not bad enough for me to mess with the case assembly.

IPS glow is a trait of the LCD substrate where light leaks at a shallow angle across the screen. Will vary between panels (and manufacturers) due to the manufacturing tolerances but the curve isn't helping either.

I have to say your monitor looks pretty normal for the BLB that you see either side of the 16:9 image on the Acer/Asus monitors. They use the same panels I believe so must suffer similar traits.

This is an enhanced comparison of my X34 to my 40" VA 16:9 panel below it's obviously not like that I normal viewing.

thanks for all the feedback replys. :)

bimbleuk i looked at your picture thank you , my acer was like that as well which i returned for other reasons. The asus seems slightly better im on now ie less spread in left corners , right corner i dont notice.

Just unsure wether to return and give up i cant imagine getting any better based on what ive seen or feedback ..... in the day the reflection are quite bad , on the evening i contend with this blb glow i find myself raising monitor lower chair etc if i sit back from desk its only noticable on top left corner i even tried adding led lighting to rear of desk , i think out of the 5 screens ive seen they all looked the same on left hand side. The asus were better for this but its still there as you can see.

Ill have to mull it over at the moment its a shame its a great screen but between reflections and blb glow I feel limited with a window on enjoyment on this screen.

if only we had OLED , I remember similar problems years back with LCD tvs which led me onto purchasing my pioneer krp the picture quality to this day is superb.

These lcds with ltd contrast etc just make the image look soft and less detailed in comparison , I have to admit thou the 100hz and gysnc is what sold me and is a nice step up from 60hz I have to try and remember this was the reason for getting a monitor again after all these years which is roughly 6 / 7 lol

Shame we have to go through this lottery panel as its just headache , ill just have to see if I can put up with the glow or blb whatever its is because I haven't seen a similar panel i.e. gysnc or 100 at 3440x1440.

** hmm having a look at the Samsung CF791 at the moment doesent look to bad

i think im going to call overclockers today and rma this panel for the samsung , i was looking at comparison pictures on overclock.net from a user who owns both screens i.e. the asus pg348q and the samsung cf791 and the samsung just looks like it offers a much better / detailed image. I think this is due to the black levels the samsung offers.

the only thing about the samsung is lack of gsync .... not sure if i would miss it or not. I guess the only way to tell is to purchase the panel and compare.

Why don't you get the AOC or HP gsync 34" 1440 VA 100HZ monitor? Probably not quite as good as the Samsung, at least for the IQ/colours but it shouldn't be drastically different.

ive not looked into the aoc but but the hp is a ips panel right ? im starting to think ips isent good for me the blacks are dismal coming from plasma and the yellow glow is infuriating.

I could probably handle the black levels if it wasent for the yellow glow that for me is a killer shows up in doom res evil elite dangerous all dark games and makes me real bad about purchase.

well received my cf791 today unfortunately b-grade but overclockers were quick to sort replacement so cant fault the service there ….. I have to say wow , the screen is nice the colours are so much richer and the screen gives so much more detail blacks are really quite black and that's coming from a plasma krp 500a owner. Obviously you have to sit head on but this is fine for pc use.
The biggest problem I have now is that I thought my pc was powerful enough to drive this at 100 and for the most part it is but when I get a frame drop say 20fps the stutter is awful.
If this screen had gsync like the asus I would easily rate it as the best screen on market, out of the screens ive seen.
So the samsung offers the better image , hands down it does the asus looks soft and blurry in comparison.

However the asus offers better motion due to gysnc decision decisions.

Im sorry to say but that is awful compared to my own earlier in thread , I wonder if those same 3 members of staff would say that if it was there own money. Out of all the screens ive seen the acer`s are generally worse for blb in left corners. IF you want less blb I would pay the extra and go with asus.

I decided to stick with my asus after reviewing the samsung cf791 and returning to ocuk, im not happy about the blb but the gysnc was worth it over the samsung. I cannot imagine keeping this monitor for very long thought every time I turn it on or have dark content my eyes are drawn to it.

Shame as when I invested in monitor it was supposed to last for at least 2 / 3 years but if something better comes along with no blb hopefully before end of year same spec I will jump ship in a instant.

Id be happy to go back to my pioneer krp500a but ive been relegated by Mrs and its now used solely for movies etc :)

I do feel for the retailers but most are happy to peddle this crap to us and tell us its fine because thats the same line thats given to them by the manufacture which they have to follow …... they know themselves its not fine , long and short of it is that manufacturers need to step up and stop treating consumers so badly. I would happily pay extra for a panel that has been inspected and tested calibrated whatever by the manufacture as I did with the krp500a years ago.

No one wants to be rma ing panels its exhausting mentally and not to mention time consuming its like the resellers think we have nothing better to do when all we want is to be enjoying our new product free from defects .

Fenchu>Unfortunately I have never seen an IPS screen without backlight bleed or IPS glow ever and I have been using IPS for a very long time now.

At the moment I have 2 Dell 34 and one Asus 34 and they all have it. It just to varying degrees.Having said that One of Dells has the lowest amount of BLB/Ips glow I have ever seen. While the other Dell has the worst out of the three. And the Asus sits in the middle. It not really a substantial amount.

But as soon as the Dell Oled 4k comes out then I am after that and ditching Ips ultrawides. I love the ultrawide format and the IPs for all the benefits it brings but against an Oled it's no match.

I hear you there fella , really looking forwad to oled monitors at the right price of course .... that dell oled just seems way overpriced at moment but certainly a step in the right direction :)

such a shame lcd tech , not much has changed from my last lcd which was returned 9 years (sony x4500) ago to my current asus pg348q soon to be sold :D . They all still seem to be plagued with the same issues , if the world was a better place the only two techs that would be around now and affordable for all would be oled and plasma :)
