Ive smoked for a good few years now and the though of giving up fills me with dread.

On the 21th of March I've booked a session of hypnosis, a few friends have been done by the same guy and they are all of the fags.

Anyone else stopped with hypnotism or had it done

Try the Paul McKenna tapes (or download the mp3's if you're a pirate)

1. He's good at relaxation hypnosis - you'll wake up refreshed and feeling like you had a great sleep

2. It's not a foreign (American) accent (Sorry any yanks, but the accent doesn't work for me while listening to hypnosis)

3. If you're committed to quitting, he makes some damn good points and good re-wiring of the brain.

I've got them, but unfortunately am not ready to quit, but when I am, later this month I will be using them

my mum gave up smoking this way 6months ago. Before she stopped she was smoking 30+ a day for 30-40 years. She went to have hypnosis and since then she hasnt smoked a single cig. To be honest its quite amazing, but i believe it only works if you enter into the session with the right attitude.

I was smoking for over 10 years and stopped 3 weeks ago. Just willpower, no patches, nothing.

Don't feel to bad either!

I quit for 18 months but started knocking about with some old mates who do smoke and I find myself smoking two or three cigarettes a day now. I managed to do it by just going cold turkey, I did really well in those 18 months too, NO SWEARING me off now I'm smoking again cause my breathing has gone like it was and I'm having difficulty getting to sleep. :(

Waste of money in my opinion. I had smoked for 20 years when I quit about 2 months back. I just stopped, no patches or gum, no hypnosis and most definitely no back-slapping NHS sponsored 'outreach' group! I just simply stopped buying and smoking cigs. I haven't looked back or had a craving at all.

how can you say that?? some people can do it cold turkey, others need help. theres no shame in using the 'back-slapping NHS sponsored 'outreach' group' if you need to

Stopped smoking myself little over two years ago, still have the occasional cigar at special events though ;)

I found that will power is the best tool you've got, basically if you really want to stop you will. What i did find beneficial was the Halls Menthol Eucalyptus cough sweets - sounds crazy i know but try it, any cigarette after one of those will be like smoking a polo mint :D

Let us know how you get on bud?

I tried hypnotism - guy couldn't get me 'under' so was a waste of money. Tried the Allan Carr therapy sessions - lasted about 4 days. Tried nicotine patches - they really worked in the short-term, but eventually went back to smoking. The willpower thing really is the only answer, but if you tell yourself you're taking control, you can kick them. I smoke at Xmas and funerals only now.

I stopped smoking a week ago.

Was going up town with a girl I would like to be the replacement for my gf (future wife?) and decided that I had enough of smelling like my grans rear end and wanted to spend as much of the night with her.

8 Days now actually! :) Work has been the hardest!

The best - and indeed only - way to stop smoking is willpower. All other methods, from drugs to therapy, will not work if you are not mentally ready to stop. After a day or two it is ALL in your head, and the only thing that can overcome that is pure willpower.

Things like hypnosis can help some people though. So long as you believe it will work and actively want to stop smoking then it may work for you. Don't expect it to work if you don't want to stop or don't believe in hypnosis though!
