Did a very stupid thing last night :(

Anyway am now determined not to let drink take over my mind and body anymore - I dont class myself as a real alchoholic but I do drink to excess when I go out - and as found out last night im really not myself! :o

So has anyone else ever gone cold turkey before and did it affect your life?

I tell myself the same thing on a saturday monring.... :o

I've never had a problem with drink but did smoke - and I've managed to quit that.

Anyone here who has been to a meet will tell you I used to chain smoke, so if I can give up that, anyone can give up anything! :p

I gave up heavy drinking for new year. I used to easily drink 10+ pints a night, but since I quit the heavy drinking I've had nothing more than 2 pints of Guiness. I also feel better, less lethargic, have a better appetite and am not as groggy in the mornings.

I also gave up smoking three days ago, not a problem yet. No cravings or adverse effects have popped up yet. All in all, I'm pretty surprised at how easy it is. After 25 years of smoking 15-20 a day I'd have thought it would have been a lot more difficult.

I gave up about 3 years ago now, used to suffer terrible hangovers & thought i've had enough, don't miss it at all

Don't smoke anymore either, gave it up around 7-8 years ago,was 20 a day for around 15 years & found it very easy to give up tbh :D

I quit smoking a month ago. Wasn't easy but once the habits began to fade from my memory and cease to be second nature it got a lot easier.

Can you not drink in moedration to begin with?

I never really did a lot of booze, I used to do other stuff, but I have now stopped completely. I am boring now :p

If you drink excessivly for a long period of time (half a bottle of vod a night + lots of cans wine etc) going cold turkey can force your body into a pretty bad state due to lack of minerals and has withdrawl symptoms, these can be as bad as siezures, just to let you know :)

This is the same reason I restrict myself to only a few drinks of a night, and have learnt to gauge when I should switch to soft drinks. Beyond a certain point I start becoming, for want of a better word, an idiot. I insult people, offend people left right and centre and generally become someone I don't like. I did that a few times and twigged that being drunk is pretty much stupid, especially if it makes me do that, so I just don't do it anymore.

If you still want to drink but don't want to get too drunk you could consider making every second drink a water, it should slow you up a bit and will probably help with the hangovers in the morning plus you will save money. Alternatively just make sure you have a higher tolerance level. ;)

Best option though is to control yourself so that you can gauge how drunk you are and then when you feel you are getting to drunk just back off and drink soft drinks like Garp suggests. :)

Meh I gave up the smoking a while ago but I do like to drink at the moment. The 300ml bottles of Grolsch are my favourite at the moment. They help dumb the effects of having a family and are the anaesthetic of life p: Off to see the Doc tomorrow for a check up and he'll no doubt lecture me about it. Heh ho...............

I wouldnt give it up complely, just cut back a lot.

I dont drink all the time but when i do i usually get pretty drunk. I NEVER ever ever get aggressive im everybodies friend but no soo much i speak to random people.

Two weeks ago i cant remember some of the night and its quite embarrasing to be told stuff you did or be told about stuff you cant even remember. I aim to get drunk tomorow night as its been a hard week and i just wanna forget about it all.

I like to think anything in moderation isnt bad for you.
