Anyone whos trained or training in Karate or any other contact martial art has got to check this out. I got one of their leaflets through the door so googled them.... its embarrasing,

I'm training for my 1st Dan in Shotokan and hope I look this slow in mega-slow-mo...

oh and they dont like critics, they removed some honest comments left on their video by my Sensi... please give your honest opinion to them !

maybe but they're very sloppy and poor techniques, if they're slow they should still be good. I've been reading around about the clubs and they're not very good except for getting money in according to others who have trained with them.

You could say shotoken is a waste of time as well really. Kyokushin is probably the most effective karate to learn by a mile.

I'm not getting into which style is best as they all have good and bad points, but how can you have respect for a club that says you can be a 1st dan within 1-2 years? no matter how good you are it takes longer than that to learn all the moves/stances, kata's, kumite, bunkai, hidden moves, instructor training and so on. If you watch some of the other videos they have their stances are terrible and the moves look weak, if your training someone in any style and they are paying you they are paying to be sure that what they are learning is correct and usable in a real situation. I wish I was in when they posted the leaflet through...

i did Shotokan karate when i was probably about 12. i managed to get to a brown belt with a white stripe. there was no real contact fighting and was basically just set routines. i started it mainly to get some exercise but over time just got boring.

it depends on the club, I attend a traditional Shotokan club and we do Kata and combinations every lesson and then pad, sparring or selfdefense take downs. Some lessons we'll spend all the remaining time after Kata and combo's hitting and kicking pads for practice or we sparr a lot. On Sundays we always do take downs and locks/holds on the mats, very interesting and useful for controlling. My old club 12 years ago was combos and katas only.
