GLC is currently on a category 5 fire, apparently starting in a nearby vape shop and has spread into the station. Because it's not a London station (and thus deemed not important enough), the BBC has shoehorned the GLC fire on row 4 beneath the Trump/war stuff. I'm hundreds of miles away in Stafford but think it's still worthy of a thread due to the number of commuters that will be impacted through timetable disruptions. The station is now closed until further notice.

Yeesh, that looks awful. Hopefully contained soon.

I wonder what the odds are of it being a dodgy 18650.
 
Saw some photos and clips earlier, already looked awful and hadn't got to the station yet really. Hopefully nobody is hurt and any damage can be restored as I believe all the buildings affected are old and it would be a shame to lose them.

It really is. There's a few photos where the front of the shop just looks black and no smoke with some fire officers standing outside, but then a video from near the start with black smoke coming out and someone with a fire extinguisher spraying inside the shop and you can hear the batteries exploding.

Who knows what they were storing in a back store room or in an upstairs flat though.
 
What a shame, it was a good looking old building... just hope it's true that the station itself is undamaged, because the disruption would be massive if it had to stay closed, as well as it being a nice building that it would be a shame to see damaged.

The progression from what looked like a pretty minor fire with 20 odd firemen stood around outside to the inferno a few hours later was pretty catastrophic... I wonder if the risk of further explosions from stored batteries meant it was too high risk for the fire brigade to fight it from inside and whether that affected the outcome.


Just another reason to hate vape shops I guess, could close them all down tomorrow and the high street would be instantly improved, while drug lords would have to find a different way of laundering money.

Exactly.

Because it's not a London station, it lies anywhere outside of the M25 and is treated as 'north'. Even if it's Devon or Bristol, it's still treated as north. So it gets shoehorned below the vertical / TikTok feeds which are obviously more important (inverted commas).
 
The building where it started has collapsed in on itself by the looks of things. Station is mostly ok by the looks of things.
