I really do love my Akasa Eclipse, does everything I need in a case and more.

My only gripe as in many case side panels is the plastic side panel, when I turn on my UV lights I can see every scratch there is.

You may be thinking buy another side panel they're only £20, well I have already done this and the new one had faint scrathces from new and it doesn't take long before it was like the orgional one.

I have thought about remove the plastic panel and replacing it with a glass one. Was thinking about asking a company to cut me one to size but don't want to pay too much to get this done.

Any one else in a similar position or have you already don this and can point me int the right direction?

Pros;

Won't scratch

Cons ;

Heavier than acrylic
Fragile
Can't drill mounting holes
Would have to be square, cant imagine cutting glass curves is something you can do without specialist equipment.

Yellow Pages - Glazier

Good Luck :)

you can drill holes in it, just has to be annealed glass, then if you want it toughened they do that after the drilling, but for a case panel just go for the much cheaper annealed. if you want it shaped, it could be cheaper to get a company to do it rather than doing yourself in case it breaks or shells too much but if you did do it yourself it wouldn't take much to cut it, just something to score the glass you can rub some oil on for a cleaner cut and use some pliers to snap the unwanted glass away in small sections.

recommend a company do it though as if they mess it up it would cost them and not you :p and can't see it costing much more than £15-£20 if that.

U Can drill holes in any glass [ I work with glass ] you would need a glass drill bit most hardware store do them as u drill u must keep water on the drill point at all times as its heats up or take it to your local glass shop if ur lucky they should be able to put hole in it.

Toughened glass would be better would take a bit longer then normal plate glass as it need to be heat treated but is stronger and safer to work with but can't be change after its treated.

You would want polished Edges on ur glass other wise it will be sharp and the edges would look ugly.
Glass can be shaped but u have to pay more.

Also in case anyone trys to cut glass little tip for your's get some white spirit and brush on to the area ur about to cut this will stop the cut from drying out/ sealing up making it hard to break.

What I would recommend is a tinted side panel, especially if your using White cathodes. The scratches shouldn't show as much (saying if you manage to scratch it) and it will looks pretty nice too :)

You can pick up a sheet acrylic for about £5 on ebay.

Hmm interesting idea, the scratches on my eclipse side panel are quite visible and I have a massive horizontal one from the time I tried to clean it with a cloth.
