Glass Splashbacks

After deciding that I didn't want a quartz splashback behind the hob as it would look a bit odd snaking up the wall, I've gone for standard 100mm upstands all round. I have an angled cooker hood so it's left about 400mmx900mm clearance between the upstand and the hood.

I'm planning to fill this gap with either a clear or colour matched (to the wall) glass splashback for a semi-invisible fit.

Does anyone have any recommendations for suppliers (self-fit) and whether acrylic or glass is the way to go?

Budget is somewhat open but from having a quick Google, £100 or less should suffice. It's a lot cheaper than the quartz option anyway :D

So far it seems that for a coloured (or clear) 900x400mm 6mm toughened glass piece I'd be looking at around £70 after delivery and that includes silicone adhesive I think. I've been looking at Opticolour, MyColourGlass, DIY-Splashbacks etc,.

If I could find somewhere that did 900x400 as a standard size then it seems to be a lot cheaper, ie, I've found somewhere that does 900x500 clear for £30 shipped....!

Is it worth going with fixing points for screws or will adhesive do the job? I was estimating the glass would probably weigh around 6-8kg and it would only be lateral loads that the adhesive would be supporting as it would be fixed resting on the top of the upstand.

Is it literally just painted on the back with foil over it for protection?

I thought it would be a touch more... advanced than that. Going to go get the emulsion and tinfoil out :D
