Back in 2023, we launched the Glassbreakers Open Beta and we learned a lot. While we didn’t say much here on r/OculusQuest, we watched player responses and feedback to our initial announcement, and after a lot of testing with a passionate group of playtesters on our Discord, we had amassed quite a bit of feedback from players and partners about what you’d like to see when Glassbreakers made a return. Three things became immediately clear:
- We’re a small studio and F2P is really difficult to sustain. As many of you know, Polyarc is a small (but growing!) independent studio of around 40 people. If you’ve ever played a F2P game, you know that they survive off of constant content drops, like cosmetics and heroes. For a small team working on multiple projects like ours, this is a challenge, and we didn’t want to create a bad experience for our players, which leads us to…
- We know many players are fatigued with the F2P model. Games can often feel unfinished and endless grinds don’t feel rewarding or interesting. More and more, we see players asking for meaningful progression systems.
- And last, but not least, population and queue times. In a smaller space such as VR, we know that population and playability can hold back players from taking the leap.
So with all of that said, we’re excited to announce that Glassbreakers is coming in holiday 2025! Here’s what you can expect:
- 12 Champions, each with their own unique abilities.
- 4 maps, transporting players to different locations in the Moss universe each with their own look and feel and board objective.
- “Buds Mode” companion play to party up with a friend for 2v1, 2v2, or 2vAI gameplaying addition to the standard match options (1v1 and 1vAI).
- Improved AI with levels of difficulty.
- A progression system that allows players to play matches at their own pace and be rewarded.
