My missus is looking for some new prescription glasses, and due to the high cost, we've turned to the internet to buy some.

She wants the Ray-Ban 5228 http://www.glassesnow.co.uk/ray-ban-rb-5228-5405.html

Any recommendations guys? We've looked at a few places, they all seem to offer good delivery prices/speed, warranty, authentic frames, etc etc, but they all have good and bad reviews.

Hoping someone has first hand experience with this?

Bought a few pairs online over the years. Never had a problem. Some of the places offer a try at home system, so you can order a few pairs of frames and just keep the ones that fit/look best.

Bought glasses a few times from Glasses Direct over the years but the problem is they never seem to fit properly e.g. wonky and require adjusting. With a high street optician at least they will adjust them and keep adjusting them until they sit on your face right.

There is a local independent opticians around here with a few branches and they have a direct debit scheme to pay over 10 months. Although I'm not saving money by buying online, I'm still able to make the purchase affordable by spreading the cost. No credit checking either. :D

Some great prices on these sites i got proper ripped off at boots then £180 + for some reading glasses, the frames not designer either boots own make 90 quid if i remember they don't look to dissimilar to the frames on select specs that can be had for £10-20 :(

I got some Flexon glasses from a local opticians and was very happy with the service (probably because insurance was paying for 80% of the cost). I agree that it is super helpful to have an optician be able to adjust the glasses while you're there in the shop. I had to have mine adjusted quite a bit. Also, the optician used some sort of device to measure the distance between my eyes. The 'normal' distance is about 65mm, but mine was 73mm, so I'm glad that she did check that! Another perk of going into an optician.

For my last pair of glasses I bought them online without prescription lenses and then took them into my local Vision Express and they did the lenses. Worked out okay.

I've used smartbuyglasses a new number of times without issue and also ordered a new pair today. I know high street stores will always be more expensive but the difference is unjustifiable. I ordered a pair of oakleys with thinned higher grade lenses and the total came to £150, the same pair from visionexpress.....£270.....frames only!!!!
