Glastonbury Thread...

Prodigy will be a better show, but yeah.. It will be my 4th time seeing them, and always wanted to see Blur since I was a kid. I think Ill be heading to Blur, but depends on what mood Im in tbh. To be honest, I end up missing 75% of the bands I decide I want to see anyhow.. Get too involved stumbling about mincing.

That is one ****ed up lineup! In a good way! Never seen such an eclectic mix, even for Glasto. Shame I'm not going. :(

Agreed.. its the best one for the last few years, for sure. I keep enjoying it more every time.. Cant wait. Ive gone with a big group every other year Ive been (only twice mind), and a girlfriend. This time I'm going with a couple of mates, and single, should mean it feels even more free and relaxed I hope.

Then I have a week back in civilisation and Im off to Serbia for Exit :D

Lots of nobodies led by few and far between has been "stars". You know stuff went off the rails when Cosby Stills and Nash is coming after Dizzy Rascal, which in return followed Spinal Tap, out of all possibilities. That is the kind of poster you would see as a "additional lol" in a background of a David Zucker comedy with Leslie Nielsen. You put something like this next to Rock Am Ring lienup and you start to wonder at what point did Britain become Sheerness of Europe.

Lady Gaga my ting tings for £160.. really.

You have no idea what Glastonbury is about, do you? Have you even ever been to a proper festival?

The lineup of Glastonbury is a side attraction. Not only that, but the 'nobodies' tend to be the best bit of the festival for a lot of people. You're more than welcome to the terrible pseudo-festivals - Rock AM, Reading, Download and all those other soulless money machines.

This is the reason I get put off from going to Glastonbury every year, the line-up is released late on, and I'm one for the music, nothing else, and that line-up does nothing for me at all.

I hope the people that do go enjoy it though.

I just dont understand that.. Not saying you're wrong for it, but a good 90% of the enjoyment of a festival for me personally is mincing around meeting people, doing strange things I wouldnt normally, and having a laugh. The music is a very, very clear second.

Obviously that goes out the window for festivals like Reading/Leeds, Download, V, Rock AM etc. As they dont actually have the 'festival' side of things, just a star studded bill and a lot of angsty children.

Korn are playing at Exit in Serbia randomly as well, seems very out of place for them.. Still, Ill probably go and see them for some pubescent reminiscing.

I think if you actually went to one of the proper festivals you might think very differently about that. The others just dont compare.

I went to Reading 6 or so years in a row before going to Glastonbury.. I never looked back. Now I go to as many of the proper ones as I can. If you're after Glastonbry Lite, V is nowhere near - Try Bestival. Exactly the same sort of vibe, but a lot, lot smaller. In many ways I actually prefer Bestival.

Wow, thread resurrection :)

I'm going again, none too pleased with the line up though.. Just as well I don't make it to 99% of the bands anyway. Saying that though, there are a few gems - Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Mos Def and live band, Stornoway (EVERYONE GO AND SEE THEM), The Levellers.. Chase and Status are thoroughly meh, but always put on a good show, especially with Plan B. Few other decent electronic acts - Was hoping for The Knife though :(

Who else is going?

If any OcUKers are up for meeting up this year, give me a ring, throw me an email in trust.

And if any of you are driving from Bristol, Im especially interested in hearing from you :D

Anyone heading from Bristol or around this area on Wednesday/Thursday? I wouldn't even mind getting the train down to London or something if it meant I could grab a lift - Not up for public transport, especially on the Monday..

Id be down for a OcUK meet anyhow, if people sort it out Ill turn up for sure.

My car is full sorry!

No worries, hadn't actually noticed your location heh.. Just sorted out a national express coach though, £23 return, not too bad. Had to ring them up though and speak to an infuriating guy who couldnt spell, but still :D

As for the meet, if thats the place, Ill be there.

I've got no idea where the Bimble Inn is tbh, can't remember that name at all.. Unless its somewhere in the depths of Arcadia? Remember going to some random 'inn' in there somewhere. I'll have a look at the guide though, shouldn't be a problem to find out where it is by Sunday, so I should be there.

Cant wait now.. Getting a coach up there in 24 hours.
