This place you get a ticket and just keep going back up and they add more bar codes to the ticket, which are totalled up at the end, this place was recommended and the day after when stood in a random que herd some other people raving about. Yes that's just for me and I forgot to take pic till after I scoffed some of it.

Personally I wasn't a fan of the ribs, it was dry rub with a heavy influence of wood smoke and black pepper. I much prefer ribs with sauce and not such a dominate oak flavour. done to the BBQ ribs standard, so some firm texture to them and not falling off bone. which is how most BBQ societys prefer them done. Again me myself prefer falling to bits.
However the Brisket OMG this stuff was amazing, nothing like I've tried before. Melt in the mouth and super moist, even though I've tried several BBQ briskets and tried myself, I haven't got anything like this texture. Pure amazing.

For scale you need to watch Australian masterchef series 3 episode 66, to see the size of this beast and how they make it. Its a full 2lb sandwich. which I demolished in 16mins. It's not only large but amazing flavour. I went for a pastrami Rubens. As amazing as mine was i tried some of my mates who went for normal sandwiches and it was disappointing, the meat was so cold, it lost its taste and texture. So if you go there, get one of the hot sandwiches.

We happened across this place, met a Scottish women inside who raved about it. Apparently best value breakfast around. She wasn't wrong it was extremely good value and pretty tasty.

Some random coffee shop

Toasted cheese sandwich. I wasn't expecting miracles, but this was my first introduction to American bread and OMG its disgusting. I think they add an entire pound of sugar to a loaf of bread, it was insanely sweet.

Had to wait an hour, where we were in Washington DC was extremely touristy and this place was packed, not surprising it was in the tourist guides and books. So i set about trying some of their cocktails.

Blackened Catfish with coleslaw and deep fried cornbread stuff

img0426kt.jpg

This was an extremely good meal, the calamari was amazing and I really like the catfish which I've never tried before and the cornbread things where to die for. I thought this would probably be are best meal, but it would turn out at least two meals beat this by a fair way.

Uknowen, I think it was near a lake called beaver creek in NC
Some random dinner in the middle of know where, found driving through some lakes. nothing about so decided to stop.

A pulled BBQ chicken Sandwich, extremely tasty and pretty big, for very few dollars. Not bad at all for a lunch stop :)

Again random lunch stop, in a fish place.
a half and Half Shrimp and Oyster Po' Boy with pineapple coleslaw.

sandwich was really nice, first time I've had oysters. Massively overpriced and "small" portion. Coleslaw was disgusting though. Never combine pineapple and coleslaw, it just dosn't work. I Love both so thought it would be great.

Seems I forgot to take a picture of the starter, yet more Calamari. Best Calamari off the holiday superb.
The shrimp and chips for main where also nice, but not as nice as the calamari. Couple of the others had the Fried chicken which was brilliant. Americans know how to do fried food, get it stupidly crispy and not grease at all. Sat outside, lovely view of sunset and the harbour. However we did get eaten alive. Gave up in the end and moved inside. So if you go in the evening, sit inside or use bug repellent. It did spoil the evening somewhat.

Got to this island late, and this was just around the corner from the motel, so we went here. Sat out side, listening to the waves crash, also had a live band playing outside and general a nice chilled place, not pretentious at all. it was what it was. I had the Insane wings. They had a lovely kick to them, I would call them insane but I do have a high tolerance. But the texture, oh the texture. It was almost like crispy duck texture. not sure if planned, or just cooked a couple of times. But it made them amazing. Also drank a lot of cocktails here, before it shut. When we turned into ****** and got some cans and sat on the beach.

Neptune beach
Not sure what the palce was called, loveli Pizzas & Strombolis though

Check back for updates, probably tomorrow, got far more to post than that.

This meal narrowly claimed top prize and won our best meal out there. I had the ribs, steak and turtle pie. the beef ribs where amazing and the cabernet butter sauce, worked so much better than I thought it would. The steak on the other hand was slightly disappointing, well cooked and incredibly tender, but as will all USA Beef I tried distinctly lacked Beef flavour (do they still use hormones and stuff, or is it just the breed). Now to the turtle pie, what can I say. BEST PUDDING EVER and I mean that. its the best pudding I ave ever had. Rich, chocolaty and decadent, beautiful. Enjoyed it so much as soon as we got back to the motel I looked online and found a recipe.

Keep em coming! Looks like my kind of trip :)

Will be doing a similar thread for our Christmas trip to NYC and maybe our trip to Nice/Cannes/Monaco tomorrow :D

Now that's a proper calamari starter - probably more than most main courses you'd get over here!

Completely off topic as it's just popped into my head but why do restaurants insist on serving plain calamari with rocket in a salad? Totally overpowers it. Had this a couple of times and it was horrible.

Yes proper serving of calamari. Had calamari three times out there.

Can't say I've noticed this salad calamari, or if I have I've blanked it from memory.

A few more updates, still not finished. But internets gone pretty much unusable. Thanks virgin. So I'll finish when internets working properly.

Oh man what a gold mine for me.

I'm going to NYC, Philly, Washington, Myrtle Beach (and probably day trip to Charleston), Nashville, Dallas and Austin in September/October. I shall write these restaurants down and save them ready for the evenings!

Cheers Glaucus.

Cant remember what place, had some cool rocking table/chair things. Food was distinctly average pub like.

The second best meal out there.
I was disappointed with the starter though, I Didn't get the raspberry combo and the Foie Gras could have been cooked a bit better. However the other starters where amazing, especially the stuffed mushrooms.

Now the vodka alla penne, was simply beautiful, well balanced, rich and tasty. could have eaten that all day.

Finally the dark chocolate cake, this is for a chocolate and rich/heavy pudding lover, absolutely beautiful, after you eaten 2/3rds of the cream first. The cake to cream balance is well off and hides the beautiful cake. Once you munch some of the cream and balance it yourself its divine.

This is an extremely popular place, with loads of return customers who obviously know the staff well after many years of eating there, so best to book, unless you are lucky like us.

That just leaves
Florida Keys
we didn't eat out here, are hut was on the beach, so we just BBQ'd it, as I never got round to having a huge steak I thought sod it, especially when a 2lb sirloin steak cost me $11

Dinner is ordered and just jumped in here to get the taste buds going :)

potato totters, they look like battered potato croquettes?

Just normal croquettes, oh and it appears to be tater totters.

The other side that people must try are Hush Puppies, deep fried cornbread dumpling things. simply amazing.

Only other thing, is I tried a million and one root beers. A&W was the winner and the diet version was exactly the same.
