A bunch of my colleagues are going gliding at London Gliding Club tomorrow night.

Having never been to one of these events, is it a good photo op?

Any ideas or advice appreciated. :)

A great opertunaty to get some shots Joe, Yes indeed take the camera and get what you can.. :)

I took this shot last week at 33,000 feet on my way to Spain..

And yes I know you won't be at that height.. :D

If in doubt take it out

Heard that before - and my mate got arrested because of it. ;)

Gliding is the best for of flying tbh. Very very quiet and a load of fun.

Take your Camera - you may be able to get some good shots depending on what you're going up in and how they are launched.

Tow launch - very dull - but plenty of time to get shots out of the little air vent.

Winch Launch - 0-70mph in 5 meters and up at 80° - doesn't take long but some interesting photo opportunities of the wing near vertical to the ground - but it's a bit violent.

I prefer winch launches myself.

Take your camera though. :D

I had the option to actually fly, but I dont really like heights and all that stuff.

Basically I wimped out, with the excuse of taking pictures. Sad really :(

Wuss. :p

Last time I went gliding they gave me a parachute - I just laughed.

We got up to 1200 feet - by the time your in enough trouble to jump out, have jumped out and got the chute open - you're a puddle on the ground.

Great sport.

Same here mate. Keep them feet firmly planted on the ground :) Fast shutter speeds, wide apertures...lots of zoom.

There's plenty more, but they tend to be people shots and I dont want to post them on here to respect their privacy. :)

Not as good as the first I posted, but I hope you like. :)

*scoff* There's two pics of me, so much for privacy lol! I don't mind - it was amazing. I'm thinking of taking up gliding now!

Depends very much on the glider. I learnt to fly in a Grob MkII which was pretty new but very very noisey. Still great fun though, but not silent as a lot of people assume.
