GlimmerBlocker

Recently I got annoyed with the adverts being displayed in some of RSS feeds that I'm subscribed to in NetNewsWire. I came across this preference pane which works as a HTTP proxy meaning that it will block any adverts in any application. However, the adverts weren't blocked by the bundled filters so I had to include the filter rules myself :p

This also works in all web browsers in any virtual machine application (e.g. VMware Fusion) if you change the proxy and the port in Internet Explorer (which is applied system-wide) and Firefox (which uses its own proxy settings). Virtual machines are seen as a different computer by GlimmerBlocker hence why you have to change the settings. This helps to cut down on the number of duplicate plug-ins/extensions installed on the same Mac :)
