There are a few glitches out there that if you know about them, they give you advantages over others online, What are your thoughts on people that use these glitches to get an advantage over other players?

Personally, I think it falls in the same category as cheating.

For example, i think it's COD4, on one of the levels, its possible to glitch yourself to a high advantage point, and stay there sniping characters.

Right or wrong?

And do you think there should be a punishment for abusing online glitches, Same as there is for using a trainer on PC gaming, Is negative feedback justified if someone is winning via glitching.

Hmm... In StarCraft and street fighter a lot of the glitches have become incorporated into the core game play of the competitive scene, but they are normally very minor things like getting weak units through a barricade in SC.

It's not as game breaking as a sniper getting to a vantage point/inside a rock that the developers had not planned for them to get to, as it means that location was not considered when game balancing and the nature of the game (removing the need to get ammo for sniper rifles for example) make it a hugely unfair advantage.

Anyone caught cheating on XBL through glitches should have their account banned from XBL, perhaps after a 3 strike system.

According to MS if you are found to be expoliting glitches you can have your gamerscore removed for that game or even all score depending if you continue. It gets discussed on the Major Nelson podcast a fair bit.

I think in multiplayer PVP games glitching is basically cheating and people should not do it.

I play zombies in WAW a lot and every game someone wants to do the double tap glitch which means all the zombies just blind run into a wall where they stay until someone shoots them. Whilst this is definately different from cheating vs other players, it really spoils the game for me as there really isn't any challenge to it once someones in that glitch. Seems like every game someone is doing the double-tap glitch so I cba playing it anymore sadly.

I remember Major Nelson was tweeting a few weeks back about how MS had deleted all the gamerscore off accounts that had been caught cheating/glitching. It just spoils the games so MS are right to punish those who do it :)

I don't suppose there would be any glitchers on this site after reading this willing to post in their defence?

I just wonder why glitchers think it's okay to do so.

Do you think what you are doing is elite in someway?
Can you hold your own online without using glitches?
Do you guys who glitch see it as cheating?

Not all glitches are bad, I know of a number of Glitches, as Kreeeeee has said, which have been incorporated into the game.

It obviously depends on the glitch and what the output of said glitch is. However, if it's a bad one and will ruin other peoples fun/experience (which is the key thing). then they should be reprimanded.

However, what would be an appropiate punishment, that's the question.

depends if its game breaking... if it adds to gameplay then im all for it.

stuff like that map stuff the OP mentioned is normal in my eyes, it would be unacceptable if say it was a serious glitch like say you were behind some sort of invisible wall where you can shoot out but you're invincible... stuff like that.

Glitching when playing others online isn't really excusable if it's to gain an advantage, it doesn't prove anything and is cheating in my eyes.

However, me and a few mates liked to try and get out of Halo 2's maps just to explore them using the sword/rocket launcher trick. Never used it when playing against others though. I don't think there was a map we couldn't get out of in the end!

And before anyone brings up snaking in Mario Kart, it's a technique purposely built into every Mario Kart bar the first one and is in all Nintendo official strategy guides and online tips for the games :p

Is that the creek map, on the rock by the creek bed? I HATE THAT - I really think it ruins the game when people do that.

There's a few glitches in FIFA which I find really irritating, but some that people consider glitches that I think of as just good play, but it's only really FIFA that I have had any issues with.

i.e. I hate that some players have the ability to score from the kick off, but the back post corners 'glitch' I think it fine as it can be defended against.

So, it depends on the glitch I suppose.

I think glitches need to be taken in context, some glitches add character to the game. Others ruin games.

In halo, slide jumps added character. Super jumps ruined the experience.

I think Bungie in many ways went too far in removing glitches from halo3 as a result of the abuse in Halo2

To me it seems they have decided that people did not play the Halo2 maps as designed (Lockout being a prime example) and "manipulated" the levels design by using regular jumps to get from place to place in a fashion that was not intended by the designer.

I feel that bungie decided that this sort of attitude was a glitch in the level design that was not picked up by the testers. I believe that in Halo3 Bungie has taken extra steps to ensure that levels are played as "intended" and bungie have taken steps to ensure this by making certain parts of the map out of bounds by putting an instant kill on certain ledges or by implementing an invisible ceiling to prevent exploration.

I also feel that on maps there there are jumps available the designers couldn't have made them any more obvious if they had put a big neon sign above them.

Yes there are still some "secret jumps" on the maps that savy players have found, however I don't feel many of them add much value to the game play.

Its a shame really as these jumps are what made Halo2 so good.
