From what I’ve read, Gloomhaven ‘second edition has taken all the major improvements from Frosthaven, added some more quality of life improvements and polish… then removed the ‘fiddle / complexity’ that came with Frosthaven that some people found a bit much. To the effect that it’s the most accessible yet still all round ‘best’ version of the game they’ve put out. Well… that’s what I’ve read!

So going with that was a very deliberate choice. We’re not hardcore tabletop gamers and ‘accessible’ sounds good to me.

It does feel quite daunting… it is a shockingly large and heavy box!

I have the first edition, not played it nearly as much as I'd like (kids / life etc), but would hightly recommend an insert / checking out how people have arranged and packed the contents. Set-up / tear-down can be huuuuge, and a good system will cut it in half, if not more.

I also have Gloomhaven JOTL and plumped for a premium wooden insert, with characer saving packs etc, and is immense at getting the game to table.

it is very big and daunting looking.. hard to find storage space as well looking at the size of the box. i wanted to get gloomheaven but not sure if it was FOMO or actual interest. that plus wanting a group to play with rather than solo.
i should work through "gloomhaven jaws of the lion" & "Button and Bugs" first.. to see how i get on before expanding any further :/

it would be interesting after you play a few games if you branched out to the RPG side at all and if you were able to incorporate it to the play.

I've only played the PC game which I enjoyed and it was ok at firt but as the missions got harder I really struggled. I think playing all the characters myself and having no one to play with meant my tactics and comeptence didn't really grow with the game. I'll have to give it another go at some time.

That is a big heavy box btw, properly belongs in a mantools thread
