What do you guy's think of the glossy monitors ?
I saw them in *competitor* the other day and was gobsmaked with the stunning displays !
The trade of is reflection on the screens but have noticed all the laptops seem to come with them now.
Have been looking at the monitors on OcUK but most of them don't state if they are glossy or not so how can you tell ?
Would you notice the difference between 5ms and 2ms ?
thanks

I have just got a HP w2207 which is glossy, the reflection can be annoying if there is a window behind you, but the colour depth makes up for this.

I'm sure there is only a few glossy monitors, HP, Xerox and an Acer one I think.

It's 5ms and I don't notice any ghosting, not so long ago 25ms was ok for games, then 16, then 12, then 8, now 5 or 2! I never really noticed ghosting on my 12ms monitor before.

I've got the NEC glossy monitor and i love it.

The colours IMO look much richer and the blacks look like blacks.

Hard to judge a glossy montior in a shop as there will be far more reflections than you will ever get at home. If you can live with it in the shop, then at home you'll love it.

My computer deak is under the stairs so zero reflections on my screen :D

Not my cup of tea tbh, but I'm a fussy git. Can't be dealing with reflections. Besides my 226bw suits me just fine :D

I do not think you will notice a difference from 2ms to 5ms.

I have the w2207 too. The reflections tend to annoy me a bit in sunlight, but I do think the coating makes the colours much deeper. And it looks cool :p

I've got a 15" xerox one and although it looks great when in sunlight or the screen has marks on it they're easily noticable. Next monitor I get I'd rather not have it glossy due to the reflections

I'm facing a window, so the LCD can look washed out because I'm getting light in my eyes.

Not go to worry about light reflecting off the screen, so wondered if a glossy screen would perform better as the colours are more vivid.

At work all our TFTs are matt and having bought a glossy NEC there is no comparison. Glossy all the way imo! (At least the model I own anyway)

Much better colour/picture depth, and coupled with all the other great things about the NEC it's just so superior. I came from CRTs and nearly all of them are glossy screen anyway. My room does have a fair bit of ambient light and the monitor is currently near the window (not facing away but side on), but even with that its just fine. I guess my eyes have trained themselves to focus out the reflections over the years.

The only competition to the NEC is the Dell 2007WFP though the Dell has slightly better details in shadow/black areas due to not having a glossy screen - the NEC tends to mute finer details out which is why blacks appear more black - not an issue if you're just a movie watcher or gamer but for myself I had to get the Dell as I edit photos a lot so needed the wider detail range without the expanded saturation the opticlear coating gives the NEC :)

The NEC is easier to read text on though thanks to the glossy coating - it resembles a CRT more than a matt finish as *** matt finish gives a faint grain look to a white surface. Swings and roundabouts!

Also Viewing angles ***!
