I want to route a piece of cat6 from two places in my home. Currently use HomePlugs but really, they don't work very well, and seem to degrade over time.

Anyway, I tried to glue a small piece using hot glue, and a week later it was down. I love the glue because it's neat and nearly invisible, but clearly I got the wrong glue!

Anyone know the trick or the glue to buy to fix cables to walls ?
 
Well, I also tried staples, but it's very easy to get them /into/ the cable. I'm sure someone somewhere had the magic staple gun just for that task, but it's not easy to find "the" right tool.
I don't want to use the nail fixture either, but thats Mrs BusError that vetoe them :-)
 
there are wall staplers out there with staples designed for wires, google wire staple gun (its the one which use the "n" shaped staples)
 
Thanks guys I'll have a look. I have a "proper" staple, but not a "special" for wire, not sure whats the difference, but I'll give it a try
 
Surely this is what cable nail clips are for?!?

Self adhesive trunking, comes in 3mtr lengths, size you need would be 11mm x 8mm, cost about £2:50p per length from TLC or similar place.

I picked up a new Stanley or Tacwise cable stapler off the bay for £5 last year, but you get them new online from about £15 upwards.

I have an "Arrow Fastener T25" and it is absolutely perfect for the job. Well, it was designed for cables. The main advantage is there is a nice U shape at the end which you can place over the cable before applying the staple. That way you avoid mistakes.

This is well worth the money. Saves a lot of time and effort. I used to use those cable clips like Griff shows above, but spent more time hitting my thumb or whacking a nail through the cable. Or plain smacking the hammer into the wall and leaving dents.

With a proper nail gun you soon get up to speed and have the job done in no time. It takes seconds to line up and whack a staple in - much faster than the clips. And much neater to look at.

I guess you could even pick these up at a tool hire shop. Just take some cat6 cable with you to check for size.
