Has anything happened that outlook would refuse to accept gmail accounts?

I'm trying to add an gmail account in Outlook 2007 for the supporters club (which I've had before) but when i follow the guide within the online gmail account similar to this https://www.webdesignerexpress.com/...ook-2007-gmail-configuration-for-outlook.html it keeps asking for the network password when trying to access the pop / smtp servers when sending or receiving emails (which it fails to do)

I've even checked my own personal account which is already in outlook and the settings appear to be identical so I'm not sure if I'm missing anything?

I've enabled POP on the online gmail account. I've got the username and password correct on outlook but the server settings simply aren't working  Anyone got an idea of where I've gone wrong?

Since it's not the 1990s, ditch POP3 and use IMAP instead. I'm pretty sure google did step by step guides via the gmail web interface but I no longer have an account to check with.

I've been using Gmail via Outlook for ages, never had a issue. When I setup Outlook it just asked me to setup another account and boom sorted :/
You must be doing something wrong?

I've tried both methods, pop and imap but neither one of them appear to be working as i said, despite following the step by step guide / automatic settings in outlook

in gmail did you specify that you allow insecure apps to access your mailbox via imap ... that was the obscure part for me when I configured tbird, but maybe does not apply to Outlook.
(the security mechanism in tbird was not the level 4 protocol needed, or something like that)

I think it may be down to me logging in as 'another location' from the original account holder. The then chairman of the supporters club set it all up. I know the settings i have are correct but they're just not wanting to be recognised for some reason

This is correct, I had to do this for Outlook a couple of weeks ago so it does indeed apply to Outlook.

Thats sorted it. Its working now on the pop settings (i assume it'll be the same if i used the imap settings as well)

Cheers guys :)
