Gmail and executable files

I was just checking out gmail, seeing if it’s any better than Yahoo! Under viruses it mentions:

“Most computer viruses are contained in executable files, but while standard virus detectors scan messages for executable files that appear to be viruses, Gmail takes this one step further by not allowing executable files to be sent or received.”

What are executable files? We’ll be wanting to send Word docs as attachments – would these be allowed?

To sign up to gmail you need to be invited by someone who already has gmail. Anyone care to invite me? :)

anywya u can get around the exe by renaming the file and ziping it and renaming it againt hats how i did it, perhaps theres an easier way.

No worries. I've got 98 left, don't suppose anyone else wants one? Email me (address in trust) if you do.

I'll add to that. 198. I've got a 100 so I doubt they'll be a shortage :)
My email in trust if you want one eitherway :)

I find it really annoying, why can't they have an advanced user mode that doesn't block stuff, I know who to and not to download exe files off and sometimes sends exes for genuine reasons but have to rename them :(

or just ZIP/RAR exe's if you need to, instead of leaving .exe is the way i do it.

Zipping exe files doesn't work:
