Gmail categories skipping inbox

I have categories turned off. But looking at them I see emails that should be in my inbox, they've no other label but don't. I'm probably missing emails dues to this, as there's a bunch of stuff in there thats unread.

Do you have any rules configured to move emails to certain sections? the gmails category stuff annoys me!

I have rules about labels. This seems to be independant of that.

I've now turned off conversation view. Turned back on the Category tabs.

But even when I read and delete them from the Category tab. There are still other emails in the Category label at the bottom. That only appear there, not in the inbox, and not in the Category tab. They seem to old mails I've already deleted from the inbox or Category label earlier in the day. But they are not removed by my deleting the earlier email. I have to re-delete them. Which is a bit glitch y.

I hate this filtering of emails that I can't control.

I have no idea what this feature is meant to do.

But I think I'll have to stop using gmail for my email. This is too unreliable.
