I'm trying to configure outlook express on a mates laptop to pick up his gamil account. Ive tried doing iy manually and with the auto tool and all it does is keep flashing the username and password authentication screen at me. Even though I know the password is correct and the username is, as I set them up.

Gmail accounts now end in googlemail.com does this make a difference to setting the smtp and pop up. It says to set them up as pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com.

Does this make any difference?

I'm setting as the write up say as outgoing smtp 495 and incoming pop 995.

Anyone have any experience of this? Any help gratefully recieved.

Nope the domain should not matter as they can redirect you via dns, very simply, have you double checked that you have enabled pop3 on the gmail account???

Check those things thanks :) When I set the incoming to 995 and tick the this server requires a secure connection, the enter name password box keeps coming up. If i untick it, it times out.

How exactly have you got these boxes ticked and filled in?

Thats weird if I set the same, as soon as I tick that incoming server requires secure connection it just keeps asking for the password and username. Which I know are 100% correct :(

oops i forgot to mention. have you logged into the webmail and actually enabled pop3 access. you need to do this first.... :p
