Light on details, just got given a Mac laptop from one of my bosses where Gmail in her Outlook stopped syncing on June 30th.

When you go into account preferences, there is no box to (re)enter your password which seemed odd. So I tried pretending adding a new Gmail account, popped up but same issue again and it didn't ask me for a password.

I've Googled the issue and seen some suggestions; deleting cookies in Outlook/Gmail on Safari, adding a new user profile etc. It does seem an issue that a number of people have experienced.

Any ideas?

Thanks @visibleman - that's something to go on. My Mac knowledge is very limited so don't want to go tinkering too much with it, but ideally want to resolve without putting a ticket in (which could take a while to get sorted). Awww the joys of being the unofficial tech guy of the office .

I suspect it is Oauth token issues, although usually Outlook would prompt for reauth of the account. You can always look at the logs and see if you can gleam the exact issue from there - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...ging/how-to-enable-logging-in-outlook-for-mac.

If you do decide to remove/re-add the account in Outlook then it's worth doing an (OLM) export first or at least just double checking the current account is setup as IMAP within Outlook and the mail still resides with the user Google account.
With the laptop now, think I can narrow it down a bit. Something to do with Microsoft apps & services. When I click the lightning bolt icon by the inbox, it asks if I would like to launch a browser to complete signing in. However when I do, it stalls and the page fails.

Edit - my time was limited and we had to do a password reset so didn't want to add more stress/time. Backing up the OLM would have taken ages. It's definitely something do with Outlook not having the required access to Gmail, though it worked fine until June 30th so wonder what made it stop working. I have tried various ways to sign in and give the access (e.g. different browsers) but the same thing happens - the page/action never resolves and it just stalls or fails.

Thanks @visibleman , as predicted - IT don't want much to do with it. Don't think there is official support for Mac and it's technically a personal machine by the looks of it. It seems MS access was never in Google account settings, so nothing to remove. So will do the following when I next get a chance.
  1. Remove the account from Outlook
  2. Delete cookies/clear cache in both Safari and Chrome (default browser)
  3. Re-add account
@Bouton Aide, need to look into the app password you mentioned.

It's a security thing most email providors are adding now. You also need to turn on 2FA.
Cheers, looks like you might have hit the target.

Outlook or other clients preventing access to Gmail account (unable to send or receive emails)? Here's what you need to know

Isn't app passwords for clients that don't support "modern" authentication?

Odd that access wasn't granted but it sounds like you have a bit of plan going forward.
Otherwise you can add it as a vanilla IMAP account but as mentioned, you'll likely need to setup an app password.

Out of interest, what version of Outlook are they using and is it retail or subbed?
No idea but she's running a Mac Book Pro with a touch bar, so that must be within the last few years so assume whatever Mac version is closest to [Windows] 2016 or 2019.
