Wasn’t too sure where to post this, have a strange issue with gmail.

My CCTV system sends and email to a gmail account if there person is detected on my driveway during the hours of night.

I tried initially setting up sending and email from the same gmail account to myself, this all worked fine except that the new email would sit in the Inbox for an hour or so and then disappear. Eventually found it in All Mail, did some reading and found out that gmail does this to save space?

So I then configured it to use one gmail account to send an email to this account but I get the same, I see the emails in my Inbox and then even if they haven’t been read disappear and I find them in All Mail.

I’ve checked filters etc. and haven’t found anything. It does look like it’s archiving the email but I don’t know why and would ideally like the email to sit in my Inbox until I deal with it.

Anybody a gmail expert who might be able to tell what the hell is going on please.

Im not too sure if this has anything to do with it but if you open the e mail from the "all mail" page along the top where it has the e mail subject does it have anything at the end?

I am currently looking at an e mail from "All mail" tab and opened an e mail that is not showing in my inbox. at the end of the e mail subject it says "Inbox" as well as "Promotions"

The e mail I am looking at is 1 that came from OCUK about the new HS 420 cases.

Another place to check is when your in the all mail section where it says the name of the sender it also says next to this "Inbox" and "Promotions"

I also see e mails in this list that are "Inbox" and "updates" which also do not show up in my inbox

EDIT - It seems some e mails have labels assigned to them which stops them appearing in your inbox or moved else where. There is also on the left hand side a section that says "manage labels" unsure if this is anything

Where it says promotions at the end of the opened e mail if you click the x next to the word promotions it then removes that label from the e mail and puts it in the "inbox" section but it only does it for that 1 conversation.

I have had a quick look around and I cannot see anything to change how these e mails are categorised but hope it helps or I am completely wrong about it!

Yes I’ve checked the labels and when the email is in All Mail there are no labels applied.

Will have to wait to see when I next get an email that is actually in the Inbox to see if it has an Inbox label but from what I recall even when in the inbox I’m sure it had no labels.

Another strange thing is when it moves to All Mail the unread status has also gone.
