Does anyone else with a Gmail account get other peoples emails on a regular basis?

I'm not on about the obvious spam emails but genuine emails. At first I assumed the sender had entered my email address incorrectly and it was a one off but now I'm getting peoples medical records, boarding passes, planning consent from councils etc..

It's more than one person.

In the last week I've had an American Airlines boarding pass for someone with my name in Phoenix, an Easyjet boarding pass for someone with my name in Edinburgh, planning applications for someone in Cheltenham and more..

Edit - Pho the emails are being sent to my exact address. It isn't a simple one time mistake by the sender either. Take the guy with the same name as me in Phoenix, I'm getting all of his private emails on a regular basis from different senders.

I'm guessing they have a similar email address to yours and they made a mistake while typing it in.

Or somehow they have the same email address as you but with more '.'s which gmail ignore. I thought they closed that hole though (e.g. sending an email to g.r.i.f.f. @ gmail.com will actually go to griff @ gmail.com if that makes sense). If they didn't then it's a fair chance they are getting all of your emails too :p

Yeah your explanation makes sense. It's just odd that it keeps happening. For example I'm getting all of this guys emails from Phoenix childrens hospital and you'd assume he'd have told them he's not receiving them and they'd correct their error but they still keep coming.

Some of it is really private too. US medical insurance details, doctors notes, pdf's containing examination/operation procedures and so on. I've sent an email back tot he hospital telling them of their error but they still keep coming.

Any chance you recently chose to change your e-mail address from @googlemail.com to @gmail.com?

Nope. I was one of the first to sign up to gmail years ago and I've always had a @gmail address as a result rather than the @googlemail ones.

I have had a gmail address for just under 2 years and it has only had the odd bit of spam from the usual stuff but never had any genuine emails of similar name in error.

Sorry to drag up a fairly old one, but this appears to be happening to my partner now.

She is getting emails from Owners Direct, who we've never had business with before, nor heard of until now.

One of the emails was from a GMail account, titled "Re: Owners Direct - Enquiry for property ref [P****]", whilst another appeared to be an one of those automated enquiry response notification type emails from yourenquiry@ownersdirect.co.uk.

We are a little worried, and Google searches haven't proven to be useful in uncovering anything yet, but something we have considered is that the email address may have just been typed in improperly by someone sharing my partners name, and adding an extra dot. Just to note my partners account is of the firstname.lastname@ hotmail.co.uk format.

If it's a common name then more than likely that someone just typed in the domain incorrectly and should have typed in .com but instead used .co.uk. Especially if it's just one email/from one company.

I get this all the time, due to my email address being my first initial then my surname which is fairly common. I've had forum registrations, Craigslist adverts and credit card statement notifications to name a few.

I get this all the time, everything from DVD rental receipts, details on religious gatherings to students submitting their essays to me!

The first 10 or so times I replied saying I wasn't the person they thought. Now I just have some fun with it, I think my favourite was when I replied to one of the religious ones saying I had turned against the church and was now a practicing Satanist. I had some awesome replies from people trying to save my soul :D
