gmail problem

I had a call from a friend this morning to say he could not send e-mails with Gmail it just came up with - Your connection to Gmail has expired. Please log in again.
He then sent it to me from another email prog and asked me to send to forward it, which I did using gmail.
This afternoon I went to send another from gmail and got the same message.
I run ccleaner to clear firefox cache and tried again. It let me send 1 message then the message started again.
Any body else had this problem today ?

A quick Google search indicates that it is a spam filter and gmail is in the belief that your friend has been spamming messages to all and sundry.

If that is the case why should it affect mine including my second account which I only use very occasionally plus all on the same day. My friend even opened a new account in gmail and that did the same.

Seems to be working O/K again this morning.
