Gmail question

Ive just started using Gmail today and have a question , i cant seem to list my emails in order of oldest emails at the top and new emails at the bottom of the list

is this possible to do ? if so can you tell me how please,ive looked through the settings but cant find an option for this

I've just googled, and rather surprisingly it seems it can't be done, nothing even in Google Labs.

I don't need the feature personally, so I hadn't noticed its absence up to now. I guess if you really need to do it that way, your best option is to use an IMAP client such as Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail rather than the web interface.
 
At first you think you'd miss this sort of thing, but I've never had to use it. you can go to the oldest email and work your way back or the IMAP method above, but other than that I use search which is very quick and powerful.
