Gmail questions again!

I have another question regarding letting gmail manage your domain, this time it's a bit different! 2 parts really so here goes:

1: If I do allow google apps to manage mail for my domain will it tag onto my existing @gmail.com account or will it be a totally new account does anyone know who has done this before?

2: I have various people on my Googlechat list in Gmail, i'm assuming my new googlechat address will become my domain email address so i would have to notify these contacts to update their contact list with my new address (assuming the answer to part 1 is that the account is created as a new account instead of tagging onto my existing account!)

It creates a new 'account' with your domain name, so yes to number 2.

You can either retrieve the mail via pop3 on your other account, or maybe forward it automatically from the new account though.
