Hey all,

I've been looking for another email provider - and I was going to pay out for MobileMe until I realised how more advanced GMail is since I last used it!

However, now it's been out for years all the usernames I want have been taken! At least with MobileMe, a simple username such as [email protected] isn't taken...

I was hoping to get an email with just my name but of course it was taken... And I can't really use nicknames :p... (Imagine if I went to a new job interview and gave over my email address as [email protected] ¬_¬' :p)

So basically, I just wondered what sort of email username you other GMailers are using - any ideas?

THANKS,

Marky

Yes, get yourself a domain name and install Google Apps. I've been using it for years on my domain and it's never let me down. You can get a .co.uk domain for about a fiver per year. You get the same great service as Gmail, but you get more control over it. The best thing is you can change the logo which always attracts interest from nosy people. :p

Tried it with a dot in your name? I use [email protected].

But then I also have a very uncommon name.

Wouldn't help unfortunately:

Gmail doesn't recognize dots as characters within usernames, you can add or remove the dots from a Gmail address without changing the actual destination address; they'll all go to your inbox, and only yours. In short:

mine is firstname dot middle-initial dot lastname, as all combinations of my firstname and lastname were taken, and I think numbers look naff.

Just add the word direct at the end. That route is rarely already taken. So for example, FredBloggs, becomes, FredBloggsDirect@ etc. Its easy to explain over the phone, sounds professional and is easy for folks. clients, etc., to remember.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the ideas :)

I just found that this...

firstname middleinital lastname @gmail.com

Is available for me :)

Think I might go with this for now :)
