gmail / XP / IE8 support?

i'm on XP/IE8 at the moment and have logged into gmail to be presented with this...

seems a bit extreme considering there is no IE upgrade path for XP users?? the link takes you to microsoft - i did think it might offer you chrome instead.

it still seems to work ok. i'm just wondering if anybody running vista or win7 and IE8 sees this same message.

I'd jump to Chrome or Firefox

The rate new features and improvements are coming out for them is astounding

firefox is always my preferred browser but that's not what i'm asking.

Agreed. Although MS is doing the right thing dropping support for a 10 year old O/S, it gives other browsers opputunities like this

although ancient, the OS should be irrelevant. it's still running the same version of IE which comes as standard on windows 7. this is what i think is odd....
