Hey guys,

What temperature should the (G)MCH be running at and what the heck is it? Only just noticed it in my Bios and i'm a bit worried about the temperature compared to the other readings.

I've just put a new CPU in(on stock speed) and want to run some tests but can't until i get an answer on this one :(

After 20 mins running just looking on the net here are the temps
CPU Temp - 31
ICH - 35
(G)MCH - 82
System Temp - 35

Pc Spec:
Intel Quad Q6700
Gigabyte 965P-DQ6
XFX Geforce 512MB 7950GT
Corsair TwinX 2GB DDR2 6400 C4
580W TAGAN MODULAR T580-U15

Any info would be appreciated

Chris

On your board the GMCH is the northbridge, maybe try reseating the motherboard cooler and replacing the pad/paste, as they are often poorly done in the factory.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look into doing that

A few people have reported their northbridge being hot to tuch and not being able to hold a finger on it for more than a second but mine is just warm if anything. All readings in speedfan are spot on and nothing is reading above 50

It might be that the BIOS is not reading the temp because if it was at 80 it wouldnt be just warm?

Either that, or as said above it's not making good contact with the heatsink, hence why the heatsink feels barely warm, yet the chip itself could be very hot.

I had a go at taking it off but my mobo has the heat pipe linking the north and south bridges. I got all the clips off and free but the southbridge was stuck fast. Pulled at it as hard as i dared but it wouldnt have it :@

Am i right in thinking that speedfan shows the northbridge temp?

I've been researching and it looks like Temp 1 and Temp 2 are Northbridge and CPU both are below 35 on my board with Temp 1 being slightly hotter than temp 2

I'm starting to think that the Intel Qfan in the bios is telling porkies

Also had a thought that i have replaced the standard heatsink and fan with an aftermarket one that blows towards the exhaust fan rather than down so there is no airflow over the heat pipes anymore..hmmm
