Tried Gnome 3 but didn't like it? Something missing? Well, now you can grab extensions to tweak the way it works. The site's just gone live and there's three pages of stuff there already. I haven't had time to try any yet but I'd be interested to hear feedback from someone who does. :)

Linus seems to think it holds promise.
from G+

Hey, with gnome-tweak-tool and the dock extension, gnome-3.2 is starting to look almost usable.

Now I just hope those things become part of the standard gnome shell setup and made available in the regular "system config" thing rather than hidden off. Sure, make them default to off if you want that "clean default", but make them easy to find and part of the standard install.

Or would that be too close to "Ok, we admit we were wong" and thus not politically acceptable?

This looks good.

I know Mint 12 comes with it's own shell extensions as well.

Hopefully the customisation comes along in leaps and bounds, i only tried Gnome 3 for a while back when it was still 'fresh' and found it quite frustrating.

In the mean time, my Mint 11 install still has 301 days of support left.

When i used it i have to say i did prefer plain Gnome 3 to Unity. But i'm on the fence as to whether it's an 'improvement' or not. Thank god for Mate :p

Still on Mint 11 too, but i've just burned a new Arch x64 disk. Decisions to make, and i don't like making decisions. I might actually just install Gnome 3 to 'tide me through' until i understand tiling wm's.

Linus is quite out spoken isn't he?

Good on him! I remember when he jumped ship to GNOME from KDE 3 (because of dumb decisions in 4). And he was ranting about Gnome 3 ever since it's inception ...

It's just a shame these things are hampering linux take up by the mass ... Although Linus has given the world the kernel and Git I just wish he could come up with a WM which will put both Gnome and KDE out of business - the *** they are ... going at tangents ...
